I have a Mainstays meat thermometer and followed the directions 1. Insert probe into thickest part of meat. 2.Place meat into oven with thermometer facing the door. Leave thermometer in meat while roasting. I checked to see if the meat was at the correct temperature and it was not. Thus I left it to cook some more, shortly after checking the thermometer exploded sending glass throughout the oven, pitting the oven door glass, and onto the meat. Had I checked the thermometer at the time it exploded it would have shot the glass into my face..
While cooking a roast (350 degrees) in the oven and using a KITCHENAID meat thermometer the thermometer exploded sending the glass of the thermometer into small pieces all over the oven and roast.
I was grilling meat on my outdoor grill when there was a loud pop noise. It took me about 10-15 seconds to discover that the leave in [REDACTED] thermometer had exploded.
i had a bath temperature checker otter purchased at walmart i stuck it in the bath and then after about 2 minutes it didnt come on i grab it out when my hand started to sting when i touched the water i opened the back of the otter to see the batterys had melted into the bath water
The Infantino Right Temp Light Up Otter is a baby bath temperature sensor designed to measure baby's bathwater is a safe temperature for bathing. The product's battery compartment is not water safe and causes a dangerous reaction with the batteries.
The caller stated that she used the thermometer to test the meat and it seems that a sharp metal fell off and imbed itself in the meat while it was being cooked. She was reaching for the meat when the object fell from her mouth, this incident could have cause serious injury. The manufacturer was not contacted as yet. There is no recalls related to this product. The caller feels that this product is unsafe and should be reported.
My 10 year old son and his grandmother broke a galileo thermometer, not realizing the danger. It took a little while before he got cleaned off. There were no warning labels to tell us it was filled with petroleum distillates. He ended up in the ER with rapid hear rate, elevated bp, and trouble breathing. I believe this stuff poisoned him.
I purchased a meat thermometer from Amazon in 2016. It's powered by an alkaline AAA battery which was included with the product. Last week the battery exploded. It was an actual explosion - I heard the bang two floors up. I didn't figure out what happened until I came downstairs the next morning. The battery was blown apart and the battery door blown off, and the thermometer itself may have been blown out of a tray it was stored on (not pictured). I don't believe there was any fire, smoke, etc but I wasn't in the room when it happened. No injuries. The only damage appears to be a couple of spots on the table where the electrolyte splashed and ate away at the finish (pictured). The thermometer hadn't been in use the day it happened. It wasn't near heat, in direct sunlight, etc. The explosion happened in the evening, maybe 7-9pm. The product has worked fine for as long as I've had it. I've never needed to replace the battery it came with. I still have the thermometer. The battery that exploded is in the garbage but I can hang on to it safely if it'd be useful. The brand name on the battery is "[REDACTED]". AAA, 1.5v. The thermometer got used maybe monthly or less. I haven't contacted the seller, mfr, or Amazon about this.
