Information We Collect

PlainSafety takes a privacy-conscious approach to understanding how visitors use our consumer product injury data. We employ Umami for analytics, a service that deliberately avoids tracking cookies and never gathers personal details about individual users. Our visibility into traffic is limited to combined totals of page visits, where visitors arrive from, and what category of device they are using.

Data Sources

All data displayed on this site comes from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) public datasets including NEISS, SaferProducts.gov, and CPSC Recalls. No private or proprietary data is used.

Editorial Independence

Content on PlainSafety is compiled by our editorial team: raw data from CPSC, FTC, and related regulatory agencies is transformed into readable profiles by our continuous editorial pipeline, validated against the source before publication. The PlainSafety editorial team is responsible for editorial standards and corrections.

We do not accept payment, sponsorship, or promoted placement from manufacturers, sellers, or any covered entity. Our only revenue source is contextual display advertising served by Google AdSense, advertisers do not influence which entities we cover or how we present data, and they do not receive preferential placement.

Your Rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and similar consumer privacy regulations across other jurisdictions, you have specific rights regarding any data we hold about you. You have the right to know what categories of data are collected during your visit and how that data is used. You may request deletion of any data linked to your visit. You may opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings or by using browser tracking-protection features, ad blockers, cookie-blocking extensions, and private browsing modes. Because PlainSafety does not maintain user accounts and does not collect email addresses outside of voluntary correspondence, most data-rights requests are resolved by adjusting your browser settings or the opt-out controls offered by the third-party services listed above. Formal data-subject-access requests will be answered within 30 days as required by applicable law.

Data Retention and Security

Aggregate analytics data (page-view counts, referral sources, country-level traffic patterns) is retained for up to 24 months for trend analysis. Voluntary correspondence sent to our editorial team (data corrections, removal requests, partnership inquiries) is retained for the duration required to act on the request and to maintain an audit trail of corrections applied to the underlying public-record datasets. All data is stored on infrastructure protected by industry-standard encryption-in-transit (TLS 1.3) and access controls. We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Children's Privacy

PlainSafety is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and similar regulations. Product-safety content is intended for adult consumers, parents, caregivers, and professionals researching consumer-product hazards.
