Hello, my name is [REDACTED]. Mother of a [REDACTED]. She attends [REDACTED] Elementary, at [REDACTED], MI. My daughter and half her class had a severe chemical reaction to your product. It was used by Ferris State Univeristy in Michigan to teach the kids about hand-washing . It occurred on . 11-10-17. The teachers called us parents inside for a special meeting. Half the class had ice bags on I their bright red, itching faces, necks and hands. The school said it may have been contact dermatitis and ---to-ke p-an -eye-Gn-th&--kids They-saiEl-te-see-a-ElGGter--if/when-needed.,- I--teelr[REDACTED]-te-the-ER-that-day. - The ER doctor said it looked like a chemical burn and it was not a contagious illness. They prescribed medication. My daughter's face hurt to even touch it for 5 days. It itched severely, even after the redness left it (after meds were given) . [REDACTED] has a scar from the burn :m her face, now. It slowly healed. [REDACTED] told me that other kids told her, that it burned their hands when they touched the glow-in-the dark lotion. [REDACTED] said that wherever they touched their hands, it burned and itched severely. I saw half her class with ice bags on their faces. They all had a severe reaction. It occurred at the same time, after they used the lotion. I found out that that batch was used at [REDACTED]. The school nurse ([REDACTED]) said that they disposed of that batch and that batch wont be used again. The principal called me last week and told me: the school wont use that lotion again and not on my daughter. I am still very concerned, that it may not have been just that batch. It may have been the product in general. It affected half the children in her class and my daughter, severely. My daughter and others sought medical care. I am concerned about anyone using this product, esp those with chemical allergies (like my daughter and -her class). I pray that this email gets noticed . I don 't see the school calling the
I experienced long-term chemical exposure from an unused chemistry lab kit made by Science Interactive. It was stored in its original box in a shared bedroom up on a shelf in the closet. Without my knowledge, the liquid chemicals were evaporating and forming gases, causing me respiratory issues for months starting around February 2023. I had it for a year and a half when the respiratory issues started because of the kit. I experienced coughing if I had been near where the kit was stored, such as sitting at my desk, and I would also get a burning sensation in my lungs. During these months the burning feeling would last around half an hour after leaving the area and would become a lighter irritation after more time passed. I noticed that the symptoms would only start when I was in my room around that area. Not knowing the cause, I got an air purifier for the desk, which didn't help. I also searched for mold, and I contacted a testing company. I suspected a chemical was causing the symptoms, but I didn't suspect the kit at that point because nothing inside had been opened. I was concerned and tried to avoid the area while also trying to figure out the cause. I then started to clean out the room. In May I emailed Science Interactive asking how to dispose of the unused lab kit. On May 31st I opened the box and saw that the chemicals had been evaporating because there was little liquid in the bottles. I was scared but quickly took a few pictures to show a professor and then closed the box. Minutes later I started coughing and experiencing the familiar burning sensation, so I then knew this was what had been causing my respiratory issues. I messaged a professor and brought the kit to campus with the help of her instructions. Even after removing it, I continued to experience the burning sensation for many days.
