My five year old daughter and seven year old son were riding on their scooters. My daughter suddenly fell forward, skinning her knee and striking her face on the ground. I noted that the handle of her Barbie scooter, manufactured by Dynacraft had partially folded. I further noted that her shoe lace had hooked on the release lever which allows the main handle to fold. I experimented at home and found that by hooking the shoe lace on the release and lifting the shoe - similar to a raising foot - the release lever could be actuated and the handle would fold. My son's [REDACTED] scooter has a better design which is resistant to catching.
While riding a ZUMU collapsible scooter the metal snapped right under the handles. Luckily it was my teenage nephew on the scooter when it happened rather then my 5 year old son. If it had been my son on it, there could have been serious injury.
my 18 month old son was riding his radio flyer scoot'n zoom scooter on our hardwood floors in our home. He went to turn he flipped over the front of the scooter and cut his frenulum(the piece of skin between the lip and gum). He landed straight down on his mouth. It also looks as if one tooth got chipped but is very minor.
I bought a scooter for my 3 year old for Christmas 2016. On January 17, 2017, I reported the scooter to the manufacturer because the wheel connections detached, exposing a large bolt. I was sent a replacement scooter, which now has the same defect. This defect poses a safety risk for my child. The scooter is only used inside, on a flat surface.
My 6 year old son was riding his A3 kick Razor Scooter outside my parents condo (with his grandmother watching) in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. While he was holding the handlebars he accidentally hit one of the spring loaded buttons on the handle bars. The handle bar came off and he fell and hit his right elbow on the cement. He was taken to his pediatrician and an xray found that there was a fracture in his elbow. He ended up with a cast from his hand up to his armpit for 3 weeks. My concern is that the handlebars should not be designed where a 6 year old can accidentally push the button while riding and make the handle bars fall off. The buttons are VERY easy to push in and now that this happened it is very easy for me to see how it could. I do not see how this is safe. This scooter is designed for children over 5 and should be manufactured accordingly.
My child was riding a Grow-Ped Go-Ped Kick Scooter when he used the front-wheel brake causing the back of the scooter to flip up. As he fell forward, over the front of the scooter, the "hook" sliced into his nose, causing a significant laceration which extended from approximately 1/2 inch inside his left nostril, to the base of his nostril and then spidered approximately 1/2 inch across his left cheek. The injury was severe enough that we spent 14 hours in two different hospital emergency rooms and he had to be fully sedated to make the repairs to his face. The metal "hook" is designed to hold the scooter together when folded; however, it is allowed to swing freely around the handlebars while the scooter is under operation or the hook is otherwise not in use. I believe there is a very easy "fix" to resolve this issue and ensure other children to not have to endure the pain and suffering my child did as a result of using this product. The hook should be secured so it is unable to swing freely on the handlebar during operation and the front brake should be removed from this product as it is intended for use by children and younger riders who do not understand the repercussions of applying a front brake when scootering.
I purchased a Tailwind scooter from Menards at Christmastime and not long after the kids started using it, the foot brake at the end of the scooter broke off--leaving a sharp metal edge exposed at the back of the scooter--VERY dangerous. I exchanged the scooter and the new one did the same thing. I am SHOCKED that this scooter hasn't been recalled.

His cheek was hanging open and bleeding profusely. I applied pressure to the wound while a passerby called 911. [REDACTED] was transported by ambulance to Los Angeles Children's Hospital for emergency treatment. Enclosed is a photograph depicting his wound taken at the emergency room. Due to the depth of the circular wound, it was determined a plastic surgeon would be required for closure of the wound He underwent a one-hour procedure performed under general anesthesia. [REDACTED] was severely traumatized by what happened to him. His face is scarred and he continues to require follow-up medical care. He may require plastic surgery in the future. The Scooter's Unsafe Design: These kick scooters, for use by children ages 5 to 8, have plastic plugs in the ends of the handlebars that are held together by an elastic string. The string can come undone at any time causing the plugs to fall out and the metal handlebar ends to be exposed.
