Most people instinctively fear dramatic hazards, chainsaws, fireworks, ATVs. But NEISS data tells a different story: the most injury-prone products are the ones you use every day without thinking. Floors and stairs are crossed dozens of times a day in millions of homes; beds are used for eight hours every night.

This "banality of danger" effect means even small improvements in everyday product safety, better handrail standards, non-slip flooring, can prevent more injuries than banning exotic products entirely. NEISS was specifically designed to capture this, sampling roughly 100 hospital ERs nationwide and weighting results to national estimates.
