Independent testing by [REDACTED] (Test Report No. [REDACTED], May 19, 2025) confirms: Fiber content misrepresentation: Advertised as 100% Nylon. Testing found 0% Nylon (100% polyester outer yarns). Strength misrepresentation: Advertised as 550 lbs tensile strength. Testing showed 486.5 lbs average. Both results received failing marks from [REDACTED]. I went climbing and used a friend's climbing chalk and noticed lung and nasal irritation. The chalk was called Maglock climbing chalk (https://rungne.com/products/maglock-8g-1),. I used the product on my hands but because it is a chalk/dusty product it can float in the air. I am thinking that the silica silylate in product may have been a reason for my lung irritation. I worry because this was being used in a gym were there were kids and young adults present and maybe it could also irritate their nose/lungs and impact their development.

during a repelling trip with a friend, this sling failed, snapped, and dropped me about ten feet, this was the first time i used it, i bought 4 of them, and threw all of them away after this. when i fell i sprained my ankle pretty bad, and got all bruised up. lucky i only fell 10 feet, could have died.
WRT CPSC Release # 12-038, November 10, 2011 Cassin Joss Rock Climbing Cam Unit recall by Sierra Trading Post The posting states that no accidents or deaths have been reported in the U.S. On November 6, 2004, [REDACTED] died in a climbing accident in the Shawangunks of New York. Failure of a Cassin Joss Cam was the major contributing factor to the fatality. I conducted the accident investigation and notified both Sierra Trading Post and CAMP/Cassin. I had extensive followup communications with CAMP/Cassin.
I've been a climber for nearly 20 years. When climbing, I use many types of equipment, all of which must function flawlessly. One of the pieces of equipment I use are carabiners which act as a conection point/link between pieces of gear, rope, etc. Carabiners have spring-loaded gates; it is critical that a carabiner's gate close automatically; not closing automatically greatly weakens the carabiners ability to resist dynamic forces, as well as creates an unsafe situation where gear can become detached from the climbing safety system. I recently replaced the majority of my carabiners with CAMP Nano 22 carabiners. Although these carabiners have seen very little use, I found two last weekend while climbing with open gates (gates that were open while in use). This creates an incredibly unsafe situation that can easily lead to death.
The consumer has a safety concern about the product. He purchased them as a gift but have not given them because he can see that there is a flaw in the manucature. There is a flaw on the hook of the nose. If used at max load it will fail due to cracks. The consumer contacted the firm but did not receive a response. UPDATED ON 1/18/2024: [Note that image 4450 does not pertain directly to the original claim, but shows another manufacturing flaw: poor machining where the wire gate attaches to carabiner body. Images 4457 through 4473 show the fractures in the hooks of carabiner noses. Image 4476 is the UPC label for the product. I believe the model number is 40-ASTROCCLQDS1 as shown on this label. Image 20240117_104342534 shows what I believe is either a serial number or manufacturing code. The same number appears on all the carabiners.]
