The person who was riding the horse fell from the horse because the Stirrup Adjustment Buckle failed. This is a common issue with all Stirrup Buckles except, The [REDACTED].
Suffered forward fall from horse wearing said helmet. Helmet rocked backward so that did not protect front of head when I hit the ground. I was knocked out and admitted for overnight hospital stay. No significant long term brain damage. (Helmet was fine and showed no damage or accumulation of dirt.) Had noticed before that helmet chin strap did not stay in position during ride. As the chin strap lengthened, helmet became looser and looser. I believe this is a design flaw in that material of strap is slippery, and rubbery "O-ring" securing strap position is ineffective. I have since secured strap position with 2 tightly fastened cable ties. The consumer shouldn't have to do this. Another person wearing this helmet may not be so lucky.
I purchased the FES Wide Barrel Curved Egg butt Snaffle from sstack.com. It arrived in the mail last week and I used it for the first time on Thursday 9/12 for a brief flat on my horse with no incident. I used it again the next morning in a lesson with my trainer. I was in a nice controlled 20m canter when I felt slack in my reins. I was confused at first to see the bit hanging out of my horses mouth. Then I realized that it was hanging in two pieces on either side of his head banging him on the head with every stride. He took off at a panicked gallop and I had no control. I do not recall separating from my horse but I ended up in an ambulance on my way to the ER. I am very fortunate to be at home recovering from a concussion with loc and a bruised sacrum. The concussion is not a fun recovery but it could have been much worse. The bit was brand new and should not have come apart. This was clearly a defective bit and the defect could have resulted in a tragic ending.
I wear an equestrian safety air vest when competing in horse jumping. Retailers claim it to be the safest and best choice for protection from falls, with focus on internal injuries and spine. I wear the FreeJump Air vest that was sold to me as being the best safety option. From the website this " vest is the first airbag vest made for horseback riding to have been approved by the NF S72-800-2022 standard". They are all produced in Europe and sold by US retailers. Twice it has deployed at the wrong time in minor falls, but resulted in the first fall breaking my wrist in 8+ places resulting in surgery and rehab. The second fall resulted in a completed radial head fracture, multiple contusions, and head trauma. There is no warning as to peripheral injuries happening while using the vest. The propulsion of the airbag creates a situation that causes more injuries then prevents. Given these are rapidly being sold in the US, and all the companies are from Europe makes it impossible to seek any help from US attorneys - for which I have tried. Fighting over jurisdiction prior to hearing my cases was not financially feasible. I would have never worn the airbag vest and would just used a "normal" hard shell vest without all the push from US retailers to purchase.
SAFETY CONCERN: Four of the Ovation helmets were tested. Each was subjected to the ASTM F1163-04a Standard Specification for Protective Headgear Used in Horse Sports and Horseback Riding. The drop rig and drop height for each drop was as specified in this standard for testing the helmet. With each helmet dropped onto the visor area of the helmet, each sample tested the break pattern was the same. As indicated in the photo with the young lady wearing the #4 sample this broken visor poses a serious danger for the rider with possible contact with the wearers eye and face. Testing was conducted in a controlled maner at a SEI Certified lab, Southern Impact Research Lab in Knoxville Tennessee. The current ASTM standard does not have a specific visor test protocol. But the Equestrian Helmet standard committee is currently working on the creation of a test method for helmet visors to stop this type of failure which can cause serious injury to the rider if the visor is impacted during a fall. There have been some incidents to date where these visors have broken in the field. This hazardous condition can and should be eliminated by replacing the plastic visor with a rubber, flexible visor. At present this product posses a serious risk of injury to anyone wearing this helmet. A specific warning regarding this breakage is not sufficient. Corrective action should be taken to eliminate this risk. A notification should be sent out to retailers and consumers regarding the risk of serious injury to the wearer if an impact was occur to the visor .
I purchased online an Equitheme airbag safety vest from the North Carolina company Ride Equisafe on September 20, 2025, for my 14-year-old daughter. The manual attached to the vest states that the vest must be worn UNDER garments such as a sweater, rain jacket, or coat. However, [REDACTED], the owner of the company stated verbally and in an email to me the opposite - that the vest must be worn OVER such garments. She had [REDACTED], an executive for the manufacturer, write to me on October 8, 2025. He stated that he wrote the manual, originally in French (the vest is made in France), and then translated it into English. He now realizes the translation is incorrect and that the owner of Ride Equisafe is correct. Therefore, the manual contains instructions that pose an imminent risk of death or injury to the user.
