(09/03/2021) The consumer stated that he was trying to lift the generator out of his daughter's SUV. When he grabbed the handle, he cut his middle and ring fingers. 98% of the tip of his fingers was cut. The consumer was rushed to the medical center where the surgeon was able to re-attach his fingers. The consumer stated that they are hoping that his fingers can be saved. The consumer found out that there was a recall on the product after the incident.
I have a Yamaha EF2000iS it is just prior to the serial number of the recalled inverters. I have the fuel tank leak, as prescribed in the recall.
I purchased an Onan-Cummins Homesite 5500 generator for our home and kept in in an enclosed trailer behind my shop so that I could take it up to the house if the power was interrupted which it is from time to time. From time to time I start the generator to be sure it is ready when it is needed. Last fall I started the generator and after it ran for a few minutes the bowl on the bottom of the generator fell off and the spilled gas caused a small fire in the trailer. It might have been larger but I was near and had a fire extinguisher handy. The brass bolt that held the bowl in place on the carburetor snapped at a place in the bolt where there are small holes. I contacted Cummins to get parts to fix it but they said that I couldn't and would have to let them do so. Since they wanted what I thought was a high price for this I thought I could find the parts on the internet. This has proved fruitless. I asked if there was a recall on the generator as it seems the bolt was poorly make but they said no and would do nothing. I tried brazing the brass bolt but the brass seems of a poor quality. I've only ran about 15 gallons of gas through the generator so it hasn't enough hours on it to be wore out. In fact it looks new. I would have made pursued this sooner but shortly after the incident I hurt my foot an had surgery. On a plate on the frame it shows the model number as Mdl# 4EGMBD-5269 and Ser# J06E002760 and it was made in China.

Started my Honda EG2800i generator for the second time since purchased new in May 2020 and it is leaking fuel.
I own a Generac Guardian Whole House Stand-By Generator, model 43903, serial # 4319281. I purchased this genset new in the spring/summer of 2006 and had it installed by a Generac Dealer - Crandford Electric. This genset has always cooked/overcharged batteries, causing me to have to buy a replacement about every year or so. The charging voltage was WAY too high - like 14 volts. Roughly a year & a half ago, I was standing right beside the genset (just finished cutting the grass) at the time it is supposed to crank for its weekly exercise run. When it tried to crank - it didn't turn over or anything - the battery exploded!!! I cleaned it out, purchased a new battery and installed it and the genset cranked and ran normally. Now flash forward to the date referenced, the genset will not stay running. It cranks and runs for ~15 seconds, then cycles back off. Then cranks again, runs, then back off. etc. Eventually, it shuts down with an "OVERCRANK" led flashing. Apparently, the exploding battery sent shrapnel into the stator, and damaged the run windings, which provide run voltage indication to the control circuit board. Despite a tremendous amount of evidence online that MANY other people are having/have had this same problem with Generacs, their initial reply to me was that they were unaware of any issues with their chargers. That is completely unsatisfactory in my opinion. Which is why I am contacting you folks.
I have the Generac GP5500 portable generator. My unit is experiencing the same float needle sticking issues reported on CPSC and many internet venues. The plating is flaking off the needle, same as in all the pictures of other people's units that I have seen. During a power outage last week, I found my running generator surrounded by a pool of fuel on the floor of my barn. I am amazed that everything did not go up in flames. My unit has under 20 hours on it and is about 2 weeks out of warranty. It has always been stored with the carb empty of fuel. I have also always used ethanol free premium Shell gasoline with Sta-Bil added. Generac has an obvious issue with a defective carburetor, specifically with the plating used on the float needle. I have reported this issue to Generac via e-mail with no response so far. If their response is consistent with others I have seen, they will deny the problem and blame it on dirty fuel. Dirty fuel does not cause a float needle to virtually weld itself into place, as was the case here. The plating process used on the float needle is defective and needs to be addressed by Generac before somebody is killed as a result.
18kw and 16kw Generac generators produced with a faulty charging system that causes the battery to explode upon activating the start procedure either manually or automatic. This generator and others like it are unsafe for consumer operation. I have knowledge that this is NOT an isolated incident. I personally saw an exploded battery in a 16kw generator. Luckily no one was injured because it was an automatic start. Several technicians have informed me that this happens very often. I suggested to Generac at the time of the incident to voluntarily recall the product and after more than 2 years nothing has changed. The only solution suggested is to change the battery every 3 or 4 years.
