We had a Fahrenheit Hydronic Baseboard electric heater operating on 120 volt current. We have had this heater for approximately 5 years and used this to partially heat a room in our finished basement. Today (5-5-2020) the heater caught on fire. Fortionately we were home and were alerted by the smoke detectors so that we were able to put the fire out with minimal damage. This heater was originally purchased at The Home Depot and manufactured by Fahrenheit. The Baseboard heater was not obstructed and the fire started in the control housing that also contains the internal thermostat
This Baseboard Heater has electronic temperature control which seamed to operate abnormally from the start. Eventually it got worse over the last 5 months. The unit would click on and off rapidly from idle to heat mode, about 5 or 6 times in just a few seconds when it would try to heat the room. I figured it must have a cheap chip-set in it or something. Click, click, click, click, click click, and finally it would decide to stay on and heat the room. I put up with it like that all winter. Then at the end of May, it started popping very loud, and sparking, I immediately unplugged the unit and will not use it again as it is totally a fire hazard now. Thank God I was awake when it happened
03/29/2014- The consumer stated that the heater was located in her bathroom. Her husband set the heater in setting number 5 or 6 prior to taking a shower. Approximately, 10 minutes later the consumer's husband heard a popping sound, he noticed a 3/4 inch wide 4 inch high flame emanating from the right side of the heater. Immediately, he turned it off and blew air towards the flame to extinguish it. After the flame was extinguished, the consumers shut the circuit breaker off, he contacted the contractor. The contractor indicated that the heater did not turn off by itself when the fire started. The contractor removed the heater from the wall. No other injuries or property damage was reported. 3/31/2014- The consumer contacted the manufacturer by phone.The consumer informed them of what happened. [REDACTED], engineering manager for product safety, requested the consumer to send pictures of this product. The consumer sent the pictures by email. 4/01/2014- [REDACTED] replied to her email. He stated that even though he is not sure what caused the element failure, he indicated that the fire was caused by the heater elements failure that "shorted to the outer element tube". He asked if they had any other heat boards with the same date code (of 04/09). Also he recommended the consumer to return the heat board to the manufacturer for a more detailed evaluation. The consumer informed the manufacturer that she owned two other similar heaters but not with the same date code. She agreed to return the heater. 4/11/2014- The consumer returned the heater via [REDACTED] to the manufacturer. The delivery confirmation stated that it was received by the manufacturer 4/15/2014. 4/28/14- The consumer sent an email to the manufacturer to verify the status of the investigation. The consumer has not yet responded to the offer. The consumer is concerned that this model &/or date code could pose future fire hazards. To update you, while Marley agreed to replace the he

Original owner of house(1983) with Berko baseboard heaters. May 10, 2011 one heater began arcing and smoking...911 called unit shut down and removed....if I had not been home in the same room a major fore would have resulted
I would like to report a fire that occurred last night from my Honeywell Movable Baseboard Heater model HZ-519. Flames were coming from this unit and were approximately 6-8 in height. The flames were coming from the control panel and were quickly extinguished when power was removed from the unit. This heater was probably purchased 10 years ago at a local Home Depot store so I am assuming the warranty expired several years ago. There was not any property damage due to the malfunction of this heater. The date code is 1734
TPICorp baseboard heater E2910-048S W , 120 V, 1000 Watts, overheated, melting the heating element and causing a fire. Evidently the thermal cutout did not function properly to prevent this. Fortunately, we were home at the time and were able to extinguish the fire. Otherwise our house would most likely have been destroyed. The circuit breaker did not trip. I have retained the heater if you wish to inspect it or want additional pictures.
Dayton Low Profile Heater, Model 1EVG2A. 1500W 120V. I bought the heater 11/13/2012, from Zoro Tools (zorotools.com). I used it last winter (2012-13) and this winter (2013-14). Early morning 3/8/14 it woke me up with a loud CRACK. When I looked over, there were foot-high flames coming up out of it, and thick gray stinking smoke. I have always operated it carefully. No issues with frayed cords, foreign materials, etc and etc. It never sat on a rug, only on a bare wood floor. It's plugged properly into a grounded circuit. I have never run it at high temperatures, never higher than the factory-set 70. At the time of the fire it was set at 67. The automatic overheat shut-down system advertised with the heater did not work. At least, the power light was still on, even as the thing was on fire. I unplugged it, beat the fire out with a towel, and put it outside. The acrid stink in my apartment was so bad that I had to open all the doors and windows, turn on all the fans I have, even though it was freezing outside. [REDACTED]
