I used Mrs. Meyers Dish Soap to wash up after working in the yard. It came into contact with the back of my neck, my hands, arms, and lower legs. I broke out in itchy, burning, red blisters some of which are swelling. I did check the warnings on the label before using and the only warning was to avoid getting it eyes. No warning about skin contact.
I have used Dawn dishwashing liquid for years! Now I can't use it because it contains Methylisothiazolinone. I have developed a severe allergy to this preservative. My hands and arms break out in small blister-like bumps that are very itchy. Eventually they dry up and leave my skin peeling and flaky. The dry skin then cracks and I have sores. Each time I am exposed to this chemical the reaction gets worse and the healing time takes longer. At first it only was on my hands, then included my wrists. Now it goes up to my elbows! It is painful and itchy! It makes my life miserable. I am terrified of a new outbreak. I have stopped using Dawn, but so many products have it, it is almost impossible to avoid it.
7/26/2024: The consumer experienced an allergic reaction after using the dish soap. She experienced hand irritation with redness and itching. These symptoms also extended to her scalp and face. 7/29/2024: The consumer visited her doctor, where she was advised to avoid allergens. Upon further review of the dish soap, the consumer found that the following ingredients are listed on the companys website, but not on the products packaging: 1. Tetra Sodium EDTA, 2. T-Butyl Alcohol, 3. Denatonium Benzoate, 4. Methyl-Chloro-Isothiazolinone, 5. Methyl-Iso-Isothiazolinone . The consumer said these ingredients should be listed on both, the site, and the product. The consumer has an allergy to Benzoate. The consumer is even more concerned because she has been using this product for 4 years. 7/30/2024: The consumer sent the manufacturer an email about this issue but has not received a response from them so far.
Ecover Zero Dish Soap is deceivingly labeled and has contributed to flare ups of my allergic contact dermatitis due to the presence of methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone. The Ecover website lists the following three ingredients in their Zero Dish Soap: denatonium benzoate, methylchloroisothiazolinone, and methylisothiazolinone. However, these three ingredients are not listed on the label. This discrepancy in the labeling would lead the average consumer to believe the product is free from these allergens. The inaccurate label information is a danger to consumers because the preservatives left off the physical label can cause allergic reactions in many people. For example, methylisothiazolinone was labeled the "contact allergen of the year" in 2013 by the American Contact Dermatitis Society. Had the company included a full ingredients list on the label or noted that the ingredient list on the label was not complete, I would have been able to avoid experiencing a reaction from this product. However, because of the deceptive labeling practices, I was unaware that Ecover Zero contained one of my allergens and was using it regularly. From this product, I experienced painful hand rashes, which affected my ability to function and resulted in increased medical treatment costs.
I was dispensing Method brand dish soap out of a bottle. When I pumped it out it went directly into my left eye. I immediately washed my eye out with water. In the next few days my eye was infected, swollen and red. I was out of state at the time so I went to a clinic. The washed out the eye, gave me an antibiotic and [REDACTED] eye drops for pain. That did not help at all so I went and saw an opthomologist. He said my cornea was scratched and had infection in the eye. All this while my vision was blurry and could not see any letters when the doctor did the eye exam. He gave me a different antibiotic and put in a bandage contact lense. I was required to see him the rest of the week until I went home upon which I saw my opthomoligist. He said was eye was inflammed and he gave me an antibiotic. My vision was still blurry and could not pass the eye exam. I saw him once more before I left for vacation and then after I returned. This product, as I read, is very toxic. I spoke with the Method representative and explained my situation. She told me that it affects everyone differently. I am still under the care of my opthomoligist. Please check into this product.
Caller purchased an off brand of dish washing liquid sometime around May 1st while grocery shopping. She washed her dishes with it and had no adverse reaction, however on May 3rd she put the dish washing liquid directly on her hands and washed her hands only. Within five minutes the caller's hand began hurting and turning white in color. She describes the pain as a thousand needles sticking her and the appearance as if there was white paint on her palm. The pain and the white appearance were gone within the hour. She had a visitor who also washed her hands with the same dishwashing liquid and had the same reaction which also lasted only one hour. There was no medical personnel involved, no lingering symptoms. She contacted the manufacturer and is expecting to call them again.
(10/30/2016) The consumer stated that he had an allergic reaction after using the detergent about twice. The consumer stated that his hands were itching, burning and bleeding. They were also swollen. The consumer stated that he went to Good Shepherd Medical Center Emergency Room on October 30, 2016. The consumer contacted the firm in either December, 2016 or January 2017. He was advised to send the product and the medical records.
I purchased Dawn Ultra Platinum Powerwash Dish Spray due to the store being out of the regular Dawn. The directions are to spray directly onto dishes fully squeezing the trigger for continuous coverage. The dispenser emits a super fine spray of the product onto the dishes and into the surrounding environment. There are chemicals in the product that are known respiratory irritants. Specifically the first ingredient, denatured alcohol. This product made me cough and took my breath. There are no warnings on the label that warn anyone with respiratory problems. It is my concern as a healthcare provider that someone with COPD, asthma, uncompensated CHF, or even an acute respiratory illness may use this product and may end up hospitalized or worse as a result.
