Kidde Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms fail reporting false positives at a near 100% rate. I have had at least 5 of these units fail in my house over the past 4 years. These are very expensive units, approx $50 each, and I have at least 5 locations in my home with units installed. These units fail at random, reporting false positive results at complete random times, most recently this morning at 2 am. The only recourse is to permanently disable the unit, following the instructions on the back of the unit, as if this exact event is not only not surprising but expected by the manufacturer. This has resulted in, best case scenario waking up my entire family in the middle of the night hearing a fire alarm, to the more extreme of a full fire department response and searching of the house, wasting time and resources for this garbage, expensive product. Just searching your database, this appears to be a frequent occurrence for this product, despite the company calling it "rare." I have previously contacted the company about this problem, and they have replaced the units at no cost. However when the products continue to fail, they question the install location, the environmental causes and anything else to deflect responsibility, despite the product apparently working perfectly fine at first. And that leads me to my most important concern, does this product even work at all? I have no way of knowing and absolutely zero confidence that it will report accurate positive warnings when it fails so reliably reporting false positives. Get this garbage product off the market before it kills people. And please spare me the indignity of responding to this complaint with this standard word soup that can be found throughout this database: "It is Kiddes mission to help protect people and property from fire and its related hazards. On several occasions over the last couple months I have been experiencing multiple false fire alarms and fire alarms chirping. I have replaced batteries in every smoke alarm twice in the last month, cleaned every smoke alarm at least once and some 2 and 3 times but I am still having false alarms and alarms chirping. After reviewing the ratings on the Kidde website for this combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm it appears there is a wide spread issue with what I am experiencing, false alarms and chirping alarms. In the last 2 weeks my family and I have been woken up in the middle of the night with 2 false alarms, i.e. several loud beeps followed by "FIRE, FIRE, FIRE" several times and then repeated and there was not a fire. We have "experienced" 5 times in the last 2 weeks were 1 of 2 different alarms was chirping. Out of the 7 fire alarms I have installed in the house, 2 have triggered false alarms and 2 have been chirping, one of which also triggered a false alarm. It appears that I have at least 3 bad fire alarms out of the 7. After contacting Kidde this morning they said they will provide me with 3 new alarms to replace the ones I have been having issues with. The part that really makes me mad is they said it will take 10 to 15 days or possibly more and when I asked them what I should do until the new alarms arrive I was advised to remove the troublesome alarms by disconnecting them from the house power and remove the batteries. Doing this would remove the ability to possibly detect a fire in these locations with the smoke alarms removed!!! That is if they even work.
Combination smoke/CO2 alarm alerts with multiple false positives. Replaced units multiple times and issue is ongoing. Other brand unit, [REDACTED], does not alert same location.
My Nest Protect suddenly notified me through the app that the battery was low and needed immediate replacing. Soon after the notification on my phone, the product started beeping to signal a low battery. I waited about 10 minutes before going downstairs to remove it. I didn't have any alkaline batteries (which the app recommends) so I just removed the existing batteries (which were the original ones that came with the product). When I removed the batteries, I smelled a burning smell and the batteries were extremely hot - far too hot to hold in my hand. I am concerned about the potential fire hazard (these certainly felt hot enough to spark a blaze) if I hadn't been at home at the time to remove the batteries.
Google Nest Smoke / CO2 detector started beeping about once per minute. I took it down and batteries were burning hot, almost untouchable. Very dangerous!!
On Sunday, September 26, I was awakened early in the morning by the chirping of my Nest Protect smoke detector. I had not received any warnings in the Nest app that the batteries were low. The batteries are the Energizer lithium that came with the unit. Three of the six batteries were too hot to touch. I removed the batteries from the detector and put them outside, and have stopped using the detector. This Protect is a second-generation unit manufactured on September 14, 2017, and the serial number is 06AA01AC371703AE. I have four other Nest Protects in my home and am concerned about them having the same issue. I bought these devices to protect my home against fire, not start fires.
Kiddie P4010ACSCO_w_2581 products keep giving false fire alarms. When you start digging into online reviews a lot of others are also complaining about the same thing. The other odd thing is its always in the middle of the night around the same time at least for me. but others have noted the same issues. I've had two back to back nights of false alarms... but its happening at least once a month randomly. I've followed the directions as well on how to clean them from Kiddie doesn't seem to help. I've swapped alarm placement to see if that helps no luck. UPDATED ON 9/30/2024: [Update to my ticket. Yet another false alarm. That's three days in a row. Before you can do anything the alarm will go off say fire then before you could even hush it it stops like nothing ever happened. Absolutely horrible this product allowed to be installed. ]
We installed (as code required) interconnected smoke/CO detectors in our new build (built in 2024)home. The products are Kidde Model 30CUAR and CUACFEX. To date we have had 4 of the units fail (an approximately 50% failure rate) with a mean time between failures of about 2 months. Seems like an unreliable and unsafe product to have in a code required safety applications
