My home uses a SimpliSafe home security system. The intention of this is improved safety. This evening, one of their entry sensors became displaced from a window in my toddler's bedroom, just by me gently knocking into it while pulling down the window's shade. The sensor came apart (though the pieces did not break, the device's components just separated), and within it was a lithium ion "button battery" which came out and fell to the floor with the sensor and separated from it easily. My husband, who installed these devices, could not initially locate the button battery and asked for my help in finding it on the floor of my child's bedroom given the dangers we know it can cause if ingested. We located the battery, and given how easily it became dislodged from the sensor, I promptly removed them from the room. I have contacted the Simplisafe company to give them feedback on this. This product is not in line with the CPSC laws and requirements for button battery containing devices. Luckily no harm came to anyone but if the battery was ingested by a child, damage could have been serious and deadly. I am a pediatrician myself (in addition to being a mother), and know the severity of button battery damage and risks of ingestion. Recently, Reese's Law was put into place by the CPSC to avoid such injuries.
The plug-in base of a motion sensor lighting system caught on fire all of a sudden. I happened to be around that outlet and husband was able to stop the fire from spreading. Otherwise, our house would have been burnt down.
Caller is concerned that there is mechanical problem with her home security system not recording or going off. The company has been unwilling over the years to assist with the problems she has been having. Caller contacted the company 6/13 and they advised that a service technician would be sent out after she threatened to contact the agency. She stated that she has been experiencing various problems with the system inconsistently for 2 years. 04/14/2022 - current - still offline after technician reboot and relocated closer to modem

The motion detectors go in corners of the room. The actual control panel also sticks to the wall. We have had each part fall off and almost hit toddlers on the head. I myself was almost hit whole sitting on the couch. The parts while small are heavy enough to injure someones head or eye. The control panel is as big as a cell phone and just as heavy. It could knock someone out, like a child, or pet. Please investigate because all the company tells me it that they will send me better tape! This is a product safety defect! [REDACTED]
Caller is owner/operator/installer of security/burglary alarm systems having one that he knows has a safety issue. The security system named in product portion of this report does not acknowledge any alarm signal from any wireless devices. This poses a safety issue because if the customer has an integrated or wireless smoke detector then the alarm will not sound nor will the monitoring company be notified in case of fire or burglary. The receiver "goes to sleep" after about one year and because it is asleep it does not receive any signals making it defective and a safety hazard to consumers if there is a fire or burglary. Caller honestly believes this alarm system is a safety issue although company will not acknowledge the fact that there is a safety issue involved which endangers owners of these systems to a potentially extreme level. Safety issue is that owners of these systems may not be alerted to fire or burglary. He is requesting that someone from CPSC inspect these alarms he has installed into customer's homes and encourage the manufacturer to acknowledge the safety issue and correct.
In November 2013 I was exposed to the built in siren inside the keypad of a GE Simon XT burglar alarm in an attempt to disarm it. The built in siren gave me hearing damage. I have constant ringing in my ears and being sensitive to any sounds. I has been diagnosed with Tinitus and Hyperacuis.
We purchased a security dvr with 8 cameras. One of the wires included has 8 power connectors for the cameras. If you don't use all 8 cameras and one of the connectors touches the back metal plate of the dvr, it causes sparks. It also causes sparks when they were connected for the first time too. We called [REDACTED] at the company of distributues the item and explained it to him. He said it sounded normal and to put some electrical tape on the un-used connectors.
