3m mask microfiber plastics shed and caused caller to have a slight cough. Submitter says that he was wearing the product on the bus when he noticed the fibers shedding. When he lifted the product from over his mouth a few times, he felt the fibers in his mouth. Submitter says later that evening he felt fibers in his ear, nose and mouth. He developed a slight cough and felt a slight tickle in the same areas. Over the next few days that cough began to subside. Submitter contacted the 3M company and was informed that the product is made according to the safety standards so they could not assist him.
I am a homeowner. The 3M Company manufactures particulate respirator masks called 8210PLUS N95 Tekk Protection that create health hazards by themselves. I have used these masks for years and realized that they release their own microfibers into the upper lung and lower throat that causes irritation and inflammation the day after I use them -- regardless of the levels of particulates in the room in which I used them. They are a health hazard and should be recalled.
The consumer stated that when she tried to put the mask on, the staple came off, releasing the elastic. The staple on the end of the elastic hit the consumer on her eye. The consumer stated that there is a hole in the mask where the staple came off from. The consumer stated this happened to two of the masks in the package. With one of the mask, the incident occurred while the mask was in consumer's hand. With the other mask, the incident occurred as the consumer went to put the mask on her face. The consumer believes this product can severely injure someone.
Safety first baby Aspirator. Was intended to use with my newborn baby. My baby was both by c-section so had some mucous from birth, but also had a habit of spitting up though her nose. Because babies cannot breath through there mouth as a newborn it is very very important to have an aspirator on hand at all times to ensure you can relieve your babies panic and choking when they need it. My husband brought this product at the Navy Exchange and when the time came that my baby spit up through her nose. She started gasping for air, so my husband passed the brand new aspirator to me and I went to relieve my choking panicking baby. As I squeezed the product as you normally do with an aspirator to my shock and dismay the end came clean off! The product is useless. We had to scrabble for the other aspirator which was being used for night time upstairs. Thankfully both my husband and I are infant first aid qualified and where able to help our baby until we could relieve her breathing with the other aspirator we had been given by the hospital! I am horrified by this product and am thankful that we knew what to do and had another aspirator to use. This product should not be on shelves and I have reviewed this product in numerous places warning other parents of the hazard. Please do something about this terrible and dangerous product.
I purchases a box of 8511 Particulate Respirator masks made by 3M. All masks failed the same way allowing unfiltered air to enter the mask. The masks has a defective Cool Flow Valve installed to allow one to easily exhale air however this rubber type valve sticks open. I use this mask approximately 10 minutes a day then place it in a plactic bag to keep it clean for the next day. After two to three uses the valve gets warped and does not close. I have been in attic when the valve part has fallen off the mask and or gotten stuck open. I think this is a poor design it has lead to problems. I thought I was protected with a N95 Approved mask only to find out all the air I was breathing was coming through the valve with no filtration. I still have the box and some unused masks but I will never risk my health using this type of make again. I think this mask is a health hazard. Thank you, [REDACTED]
