I was using a Ryobi miter saw model TS1342L to cut a small 2x4 (about 4 inches long) at a 45-degree horizontal. I've owned this saw for several years and never had any issues with it. The saw stopped suddenly and threw the wood out of my hands. It ricocheted off the wall twice and went through the window pane of a french door about 7 feet away. I inspected the saw and the blade appears to have bent and gone through the housing. The blade has been in place for at least a year, is relatively new, and is still securely attached. There were no injuries and I immediately stopped using the saw.
Safety Switch does not work
On 9/5/15 the consumer used the saw to cut pieces of wood. The consumer cut 10 2x4 and 10 2x6 pieces of wood. While he was using the saw one of the screws that hold the safety guide in place came out and caused the safety guide to fall. The consumer reached to lift up the safety guide and the blade cut through the safety guard cutting the consumer's left thumb. The consumer was wearing gloves and the blade cut through the glove as well. The consumer did not seek medical attention. The consumer states he used the saw only 2 times prior to the incident. There are no prior incidents. The consumer plans to contact the firm. The consumer believes the saw is dangerous and should be recalled. The consumer is concerned since the saw was barely used.
Electrocuted - determined a screw was driven through an electrical wire during manufacturing
The saw turns on when inserting the battery. This happens even when the safety switch button is not depressed and the trigger is not pulled. In other words, if I had been holding by the blade when I first inserted the battery my hand would have been severed.
I was using the miter saw to cut 2X6 boards for my trailer saw. I was cutting with all the guards in the proper position and finished the cut and raised the saw. The blade guard is designed to drop down to cover the moving blade. It failed to do so and stuck in the up position. I brushed my left index finger against the blade the cut me severely. I had to go to the hospital and was keep for two days and they had to cut my finger tip off at the first joint.
The carbonate guard on my Delta 36-075 10" miter saw blew into pieces and flew off the saw, hitting and injuring me and scaring me half to death. It appears that the rivet that held the metal arm to the blade guard failed, causing the plastic guard to cross into the path of the blade when the guard contacted the wood I was cutting. The screw holding the other end of the guard also bent and broke and pieces of the guard flew everywhere with great force until stopped by my arm and hand and a wall more than 8 feet away.
09/15/2012 The consumer stated that her husband was inserting an 18 volt rechargeable battery into the saw. The blade started moving with the switch in the off position. The consumer stated that her husband took the battery out and reinserted it. The same thing happened again. This happens with or without the blade. The consumer stated that there was not an injury. On 09/16/2012 The manufacturer was contacted to secure a switch assembly. The consumer was advised that the product is discontinued and the switch is not available. The manufacturer recommended that the product not be used. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM CONSUMER: On 9-26-12 my husband again called DeWalt and this time got a satisfactory response from a representative, [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] made an incident report,# [REDACTED], and told my husband [REDACTED], to send the cut off saw to DeWalt at [REDACTED], sent postage paid and as soon as he received it he would send [REDACTED], a new DC411KA cut off saw, with a battery and cloth bag. I told him I still planned to send this report so others who own the same model saw would be warned of the possible danger from this tool running its blade despite the tool being turned off. He said to go ahead and do that but he wanted the tool back and he would replace it with the DC411KA, their newest tool like our DC410. We will be satisfied with this response for [REDACTED], but still concerned for other who have this tool and might have it start going while it is turned off. There was no prior warning of it acting up before this. [REDACTED] 9/26/12
