Electric shock from device. Early this morning I went to unplug my DELL laptop computer. I grabbed the power supply from the floor and received a slight shock. I immediately removed the plug from the wall outlet to prevent further harm. I brought this incident to my father's attention. We than looked over and found bare wires on the line voltage side of the power supply. He had said to discontinue using that and to report the incident. My DELL computer and power supply is less than 2 years old, if that, and to see the wires pulling out of the plug (removed end of power supply) seems to be, to us, a material defect. My father's computer and power supply is well over 10 years old and this to date, has never happened. My power supply actually has exposed wires on the line voltage side of the unit. My concern is to prevent harm to any other people or property. I have photos if necessary. Please contact me.
The Trendnet Home smart switch THA-103AC does not shut off the power to the hot side of the plug when selected off using a smart phone or using the switch on the side of the unit. Instead it electrifies the neutral plug of the unit to stop the flow of electricity. I contacted the manufacture about this and they confirmed this is how the switch is designed to work. My concerns are 1) if someone has a lamp plugged into this switch and uses the switch to turn the lamp off, they are at risk of shock when changing a bulb. the risk is elevated given that both the neutral and hot sides are both electrified. 2) three prong appliances may not shut off if the appliance uses the ground prong as the electrical return. this is how I found this issue. I had a small water pump that would not shut off using the switch. 3) this could potentially bypass a ground fault outlet.
I was using my laptop the charger batter/cord was extremely hot. I didn't think much of it next thing my power outlet popped and was burnt and my laptop was fried. The outlet has been replaced the computer has not.

The insulation on power cord for an ~2 year old Kindle reader from Amazon. Become brittle and then flecks off in big pieces, exposing bare wire. I called Amazon today. They gave a refund but indicated not a problem they are aware of. I later googled "kindle cable insulation brittle" and found numerous reports. Asian manufactured electrical switch with rubber, plastic and metal parts emits fumes that burn my eyes. Very strong fumes.
Fire hazard: I was issued a Verizon eco-charge suitable for my mobile device. It is called Verizon Wireless ECO Micro-USB Wall Charger for [REDACTED] or Other Devices with Micro USB Charging Port. It worked fine for a few months and then suddenly started smoking. I unplugged it. If I had been away from my office for more than a few minutes, my office could have caught on fire. I have had trouble with this power cord overheating the entire time I have owned it. On 9/2/14, I was shocked when I plugged it into a power strip. From that point on, the power cord no longer charged the laptop, and is completely unusable. I didn't seek any medical treatment, but there was mild pain and blistering following the incident.
