I purchased a Strikeman Laser Firearm Training System with a .40 cal laser module. The laser module uses rubber O-Rings for retention and centering in the barrel. I tested the system, then I removed the laser module from the firearm, and noticed the front O-Ring was missing from the module. I checked the barrel. I found the O-Ring was stuck in the barrel, creating a blockage that could have resulted in a catastrophic failure and personal injuries. I contacted the company and have not gotten a satisfactory response and followup, which is shocking, considering what could happen if a live round is used afterwards when a blockage exists. I was able to duplicate the problem and even sent in pictures to the manufacturer. I explained the engineering team needs to be notified and there may be a manufacturing defect where the channel is not deep enough to hold the O-ring in place as the module is removed from the barrel.
I purchased this laser pointer online via Amazon, from "Instapark". It worked intermittently for a couple hours over a period of time, then only when pointing it up. Then when using, it became very unreliable and then warm, and hot today. I believe this laser pointer has never worked well and there is something wrong with the internal wiring as it became very hot to hold. There are more unhappy users than satisfied ones from the Amazon reviews where I purchased it. A common problem with it not working correctly at a minimum, let alone unsafe. I purchased this from Instapark on Amazon Marketplace 12/25/2010. One month ago I purchased a Targus Remote Presenter, which is the little gadget that let's you run a PowerPoint presentation and has a red laser pointer. The product comes with 2 AAA batteries and has 2 battery compartments. One is marked to show which way to install the battery. The other is labeled as the spare battery but there are no markings to indicate which way to install the spare. It should not make a difference as there is no metal contact point in the spare compartment. I needed to test the product with our computer equipment so I installed the first battery by following the + and - markings. I installed the spare battery facing the same way. I then turned the presenter on. Within 2 minutes the bottom half of the product became hot in my hand. I continued trying to get the product to work with our computer and it got hotter and hotter to the point where it was uncomfortable in my hand. At that point, I shut the product off and removed the battery cover. The batteries were melting and there were signs of battery acid seeping out of the seam. I returned the defective product to Staples and was issued a refund. Because I still need a presenter, I purchased another Targus Remote Presenter yesterday. It was the same exact model as the one purchased last month. The exact same thing happened again. When I removed the battery cover, the label around the "spare" battery was already separating from the battery. In other words, it was melting due to the heat. I again returned the defective product to Staples and a refund was issued. There is something seriously wrong in the wiring of this product. No surprise it was made in China. I went to the Targus website but was unable to find any where that I could alert them of this problem.
The device only requires 1 battery to operate, however, there is a second slot to store a spare battery. The second slot has no electronics, no battery tabs of any kind. When/if you put the extra battery in the spare slot, the device starts getting very very hot, too hot to hold.
Consumer reported about product Targus 3-in-1 STYLUS / ink pen / laser pointer made by Targus Group International, Inc. The Stylus/Laser/Ink Pen is in the form / shape of an ink pen. The ink pen is located at one end covered with a cap. The caps tip is rubber, which makes for the stylus. The opposite end of the ink pen/stylus is an eye of a laser. The laser is activated by pushing a small chrome button on the side of the product that is located below the tip of the laser (See accompanying pictures). While using the product, the laser end is pointed towards the consumer's body and face. The chrome button can inadvertently be pressed activating the laser. While consumer was using it as a stylus the button was in fact inadvertently pressed causing the laser to shine on consumer's cheek, narrowly missing his eye. Consumer contacted manufacturers Manager of Customer Support about risk of causing eye damage.
