[REDACTED] were dispatched to a residential structure fire at [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] arrived on scene and advised that nothing was showing. [REDACTED] assumed command and began investigations. We entered the apartment and noticed a smell similar to burning electrical wires but did not find any flames or smoke. We searched the apartment and found the electrical panel and noticed that none of the breakers had been tripped. At this time, I asked [REDACTED] to check the apartment below [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] didn't find any evidence of fire or odors. At this time, [REDACTED] returned all units back to service with the exception of [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. During our investigation, we noticed that the thermostat did not have any power so we turned off the electrical breakers for the air handler and the air conditioner. We removed the panel on the air handler to access the electrical components and found melted wires and evidence of charring. I showed the residents what we had found and recommended that they contact their maintenance representative. I also told them to leave the breakers for the air handler and the air conditioner turned off and to have the repair person turn them back on after the system had been fixed. I asked the residents if they had any questions/concerns or if they wanted us to do anything else but they were comfortable with us clearing the call. [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED] returned to service. The air handler had the following information: Manufacturer: Goodman Manufacturing Co., L.P Model: AWUF36051AA Serial No: 0604518070
I received a post card Home Depot LG Portable Air . Stop using.I have a burn on my left arm. I did not seek medical attention I put aloe on it.
The consumer heard some unusual noises from the air system. The consumer wend down into the basement to examine it, but it was too hot for her to touch it. The consumer decided to unplug it. The consumer called the mfr. during that same week and left a voice message, but she said that she never received a call back. The consumer did not notice any damage to her home, but she said that she believes that this could have definitely caught fire if she did not turn it off. The consumer also noted that she has seen numerous complaints in the Internet on her same model. She noted that most of the complaints she viewed indicated that he motor got hot. She also indicated that some people indicated that their motor has to be replaced every 3 years. The manufacturer sent an adapter for the plug which was to prevent fires. The consumer had forgotten about it. She recalled the the manufacturer and they told her about the plug. She called them again after she gave her another number and they told me the plug adaptor took care of the problem. She mentioned why they did not sell the pump alone and they replied "comes only as a unit." She mentioned pump being so hot she couldn't touch it and their remark was "plug adaptor took care of the problem. Where she finally bought pump- that place has had to replace numerous pumps on that model Van-EE air exchanged all for the same reason.
My CCH Appliance, Model YPL3, 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner stopped working around 8/15/2019. I looked at the AC plug to find it had overheated to the point of fusing to my wall outlet. I believe that any electrical device that can get that hot at the electrical receptacle is a safety/fire hazard and should be recalled. (this model is still being offered for sale) I have owned this appliance for about 13 months. I have written to the company but, after over two weeks, there has been no response. My concern is that someone's home might catch fire from this defective unit.
(09/01/2017) The consumer stated that the unit was on and had been running for about six hours. The consumer heard an explosion. When he checked, he found the entire air conditioning unit had blown up. The unit had to be cut out of the drywall. There were no injuries. (09/05/2017) The consumer contacted the firm and was advised that the product had not been recalled. No report was taken.
Window unit is growing mold inside of it after rain is getting inside where the blower fan is. It has also literally rotted out my wall below the unit
Midea asked for picture and I sent them and they are doing nothing on this Mold A/C MODEL #MAW12AV1QWT-C
Caller is reporting that the AC is depleting the oxygen from his home because he has an air tight home. He does not feel any company should be selling these units because of this problem. He stated that he and his spouse started having health issues such as being tired all the time. He stated that he was being told by the furnace company that his had a negative airflow in his home. Caller stated that he has stopped using the unit because of this incident. Caller stated that he contacted the retailer about the issues he was having and they informed he was unable to return it because he had purchased date had expired the 90 days. Caller feels that these portable ACs are unsafe and should be reported,
