Scripto Torchflame lighter purchased 9/3/20 at Costco as part of a 4 lighter kit. Gas would not shut off after second use. Luckily flame was out and I was outdoors. Have seen another similar post online, except it still had a flame and was inside a car. Dangerous!
Using it to solder at work I released the trigger on the touch sat it down beside me it didnt shut off caught my jeans on fire and burned my leg really bad I was off work for 1 month I would like compensation for that month
Caller says that when you refill the lighter with butane the compartment with the LED light fills up with butane fluid. Caller believes that if you turn the light on while there is butane inside of the compartment, it may start a fire. Caller believes this product is a fire hazard.
Was using a Kingsford light from a multipack. After I used it I set it on our countertop. And went about my business. When I came back about 20 minutes later i noticed the countertop discolored and smoking. Apparently there was a small flame remaining that I could not see. When I picked up the lighter and looked down the very hot end I could kind of see a very tiny blueish flame.
I was operating a trigger-start Bernzomatic TS4000 Torch to light a wood pellet stove. The torch is mounted to a hand-held gas cylinder. Normally, in order to light the torch, the red ignition knob must first be turned to the unlock/ON position. The torch ignites once the unlocked ignition switch is depressed. Releasing the ignition button automatically extinguishes the flame. The locking feature of the ignition switch is a safety feature preventing inadvertent ignition. On this particular evening, I inadvertently depressed the locked/OFF ignition button and the torch ignited. Releasing the ignition switch did not extinguish the flame because the ignition switch was still in a locked position. I was holding a flaming torch that I could not shut off. The torch ignition switch was stuck in the locked position the entire time and even to this day cannot be unlocked. Finally, to extinguish the flame, I chose the option of unscrewing the torch from the gas cylinder. Fortunately, there were no injuries. This event should never have happened. There should be no way to override a safety feature and ignite a gas torch by pressing the ignition switch which is clearly in the locked position. To compound the problem there was no way to unlock the ignition switch.
Burn after explosion (09/23/2020) The consumer's son and his friend were going camping. Before they went her son was showing his friend the lighter. When he pulled the trigger and turned the adjustable pin, the lighter blew up. A five foot fireball caught his entire body. The consumer's son ran into the shower to put the fire out. His friend put the fire out that was on the carpet and futon. The friend drove the son to the hospital where he was transported to a trauma burn unit at another Ruby Memorial hospital, WV. There were first degree burns on 40% of his body and second degree burns on 4% of his body. The consumer's son was admitted and could only stay in the hospital one night due to COVID. The consumer stated that the pin in the product was faulty. Follow up care, loss of wages, loss of college class attendance, permanent scars.
Purchased a lighter for candles, much like a [REDACTED] lighter used for cigarettes but with a longer nose. last week, smelt a whiff of gas in the living room, on 2 separate occasions, checked stove and fireplace, found no source. Days later, my wife went to light a candle and grabbed the candle lighter from a drawer in our buffet cabinet. She discovered the lighter had seemingly self-combusted, was all burned and melted.
Surefire hand held self igniting torch sold thru BernzOmatic ignited in my hand. torch handle has a hole in the handle that leaked gas out that ignited. I have used this type of torch for many, many years without any problems. They do have different models of this hand held self igniting torch and again I have never had a problem with any of them. I do remember about 15 years ago that this type of torch was pulled off the market for some reason. I did contact BerzOmatic only to be told that they do not repair or warranty this product, and that the torch probably has a missing screw. There is a hole in the handle but I do not see any threads there. this seems to be were the gas is leaking.
