I purchased a water powered back up sump pump. It was manufactured by Zoeller Pumps 3649 Cane Run Road, Louisville, KY. It was installed on May 30th 2011. When Huricane Iren Hit New Jersey Aug 28th 2011 we lost power. The new back up pump failed to turn on and when i turned it on manually it did not pump. This was all verified by the installer a few days latter. The basement took on water, which caused damage to the finished basement. When I spoke to the manufacture they stated to turm it into my home owners or sue them. This could let to great personell injury whith eletricity and water mising,not to mention the chance of mold now growing in my basement. [REDACTED] from the manufacture told me they have had other pumps fail and mentioned 3 that failed and caused $70,000 of damage. He also sited that the stopped shipping the pump. I feel had they done a product recall for know quality problems my basement would not had taken on water, and this dangerous situation would had been avoided. I aslo spoke with [REDACTED] and he rudely told me the same thing sue them. No effort was made on their part to eith pay for my dames or replace the pump. I requested that the come here and see for them selfes that the pump does not work and they refused. This is a dangerous product out on the market and the manufacture is aware of quailty issues. Please force a recall before someone gets electracuted or has sever mold issues. This company is not being responsible for their known product failures.
I installed the Dayton Delux Dual Float Controller model 1APP4 to control a sump pump in my crawl space. It worked fine for 2 years. One week ago, I smelled buring plastic in my basement. I could find the source of the smell at first. Last place that I looked was in the crawl space and saw that the 2X6 that I mounted the float controller to was burned and the plastic on the housing for the float controller was burned and melted. This failure could have started a fire and burned down my house!
On September 10th at 2:00 AM in the morning my family was woken up to an awful smell of smoke in our home with the smell heavily present in our bedroom. My husband inspected every room and when he opened the door to our attached garage thick black smoke started rushing out. He promptly told me to get our children and dog out of the house and call 911. He was able to open the garage door and as we were leaving the house we saw smoke spilling out of the garage and knew something was on fire. The fire department came and determined that our Sump pump unit was engulfed in flames. They were able to put the fire out and looking at the aftermath the unit itself was a charred mess. The cord going to the electrical panel was intact. We have an updated electrical service that was inspected and is in working order up to code. We would have expected the unit to short out and trip a breaker not get engulfed in flames. If we were not home or not have caught it as early as we did our home would have been a total loss. The fire department told us we were very lucky. My family's bedroom is directly above the garage so if the fire did accelerate it could have ended up even worse than it did. My children who are 8 and 6 were up all night with nightmares thinking a fire is going to happen during the middle of the night. I also had a panic attack last night when I slept. As you can imagine it was very scary for all of us and I don't disagree we were lucky but my family's safety is my number 1 priority. I would not want this to happen to another person. This product is dangerous and something needs to be done.
I was recharging my aero bed pump when the pump exploded send metal and plastic pieces flying. It appears a battery exploded. By the grace of God no one was hurt.
I bought a Battery Powered Electric Fuel Transfer Pump Portable Gas Oil Liquid Pump from EBay and the very first time I went to use it I noticed that it was leaking gas from the battery location. Upon inspection I found the batteries saturated with gas and overheated.
Two nights ago, (July 30, 2011) I was at a party trying to blow up balloons. My hosts had a balloon-blowing device called a Pumponator http://www.pumponator.com/ that was supposed to blow up both air and water balloons. It wasn't pumping air into the balloon very well and after much frustration with pumping and pushing the button, I removed the balloon from the nozzle within 10 seconds the entire canister literally exploded with a tremendously loud bang! Sharp green plastic shards, like shrapnel, flew everywhere, hitting one of the guests and miraculously missing the others. The balloons were strewn all over the room. Fortunately, I had walked over to one of the children at the other end of the room, or I (and whomever would have been in that immediate area, would have been seriously injured. At first we were stunned and frightened, but became angry after realizing that it was the Pumponator's plastic canister which caused the explosion. THIS PRODUCT IS DANGEROUS! IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND BANNED FROM SALE!
I received an electrical shock while attempting to service a Shellback laundry tub pump, Model 3-12-19. The Shellback pump is installed under a laundry tub, in situations where the drain pipe is above the tub, and washing machine water needs to be pumped up to the drain. The pump is installed directly under the laundry tub. This particular pump was installed in a rental home according to the manufacturers installation instructions, for its intended use as a laundry tub pump. The plumbing was originally installed by a licensed plumbing company, with permits and city inspections. The pump started to exhibit erratic behavior after approximately 14 months in service. On July 24, 2023 I noticed the pump wasnt working properly. I contacted the company and talked to one of their technicians, [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] instructed me to try and tune the pump by turning an adjustment nut. When I touched the nut with a crescent wrench, I received a shock. [REDACTED] instructed me to bring the pump to their company, about an hour away. On July 27, I took the pump to the company. Their technician disassembled it on the spot, and diagnosed that the micro switch inside the pressure diaphragm housing was wet, and that was the cause of the shock. They were willing to fix the unit at a cost. I refused. They returned the pump but kept the failed switch. As an electrical engineer with 30 yrs experience in automotive electronics and packaging, I was able to determine that the root cause of the shock was a lack of case grounding of the assembly which housed the micro switch. Water intrusion into the micro switch could cause a short between the hot wire and the adjusting nut, resulting in an electrical shock to anyone touching the adjustment nut. I contacted the 3rd generation owner of the company, [REDACTED]. Rather than taking responsibility, or stating that they would look into correcting this defect, [REDACTED] attempted to shift the blame to the consumer,
We purchased a Coleman Twin Air Mattress with AP-05 Air Pump manufactured in China by PolyGroup Limited (MCO). On our first attempt to operate the pump, it failed to start. We re-checked the batteries to make sure they were in properly. We set the pump aside and inflated the mattress manually. About an hour and a half later we were arranging things to retire for the night and found the air pump to be extremely hot. We may have inadvertently left it in the "on" position. If we had not felt the air pump before retiring, the unit may have gotten hot enough to explode or burst into flames. The batteries were extremely hot to the touch and were removed with great caution. We purchased the air mattress at Wal-Mart in Ocala, FL in June for use in traveling in Europe. We did not test the unit prior to leaving the United States.
