I was using a brand new Bosch 1617 router to cut tongue and groove boards for my roof. The router has much less than an hour of running time. I was making bread at the same time I was routing tongue and groove cuts onto less than 300 square feet of boards. I was in the kitchen 30 feet from the brand new top of the line [REDACTED] router table and the router turned on with no one around. There is not another human being within a mile of my location. Bosch is aware of these bad switches and tells me they replaced them years ago. There are videos of this problem going back 6 years on [REDACTED]. Had I been making an adjustment or changing a router bit at least I would have lost my fingers and as remote as I am from help death would have been possible,

During routine routing the operator, [REDACTED], accidentally touched the router bit to the router power cord, partially cutting into the cord and was consequently shocked thru the handles. He dropped the router but was not otherwise injured and recovered without further incident.

I use this heavy-duty router in my shop. It is not used frequently, but is required for special radii in wood projects and plastic projects. It is used in an aluminum router table, the router is also aluminum cast. Last week when inspecting the router and planning to put a shorter cord set on it, I found degraded power wires with cracking wire jackets. These were found on both the ground and power wires from the plug all the way to the internal switch block. The wire jackets were falling off which meant that any slight contact would have created a serious short on the machine and since it is not a grounded machine by design, it could have been a very serious issue. The router is kept inside in a cabinet, never subjected to the outside or misuse. It still looks brand new, but may have been purchased approximately ten years ago by myself. Porter Cable contacted me to take it to a repair facility if it is still under warranty. This is not acceptable and it should have been replaced and shipped back to the manufacturer for inspection. Note that PC has also sent me a new insulated handle a few years ago to handle any potential shocks as a result of short circuit - again, I'm just curious if this was related.

On Jan 4th 2022 I purchase a AC powered DCRMMRT wood router from seller on Amazon. order # [REDACTED] On 6/11/22 I used the router for first time. As soon as I turned it on the plug started to smoke and melt. I turned it off and unplugged it, the plastic case of the plug with still smoking and the plastic around the prongs was so hot it was bubbling. The smoke was very acrid make my eyes water, and irritated my throat. I developed a bad headache for the rest of the day.

While first using a wood working router I purchased from Vevor (model 0700C) I was electrocuted after touching the metal outer case of the device upon first plugging it in. Upon testing, I validated that there was 120v between the metal case of the device and ground. The shock was enough to trip the GFCI which the Vevor router was plugged into. The device does not contain a ground on the electrical plug, only hot and neutral. Upon inspection, there were no loose wires inside the device so I can only assume a manufacturing error in the cabling occurred or a component failed causing the fault.

I mounted the router to the bottom of my router table. The first time I used the router, the router base motor clamp broke. The motor, running at 25,00 RPM fell out of the router base. On the way down the router bit hit the inside of the base cutting groves around the inside of the base.The router motor, still running, landed sideways on a box I had under the table. The clamp is thin cast aluminum with two 90 degree corners.It is designed to go around a rack gear on the motor. The clamp is not robust enough to hold the motor under the pressure of routing.

Router threw a bit from the collet while in use. Porter Cable 8902 Router. Mounted in a router table. New. First use. Collet : 1/4 inch. Bit was thrown up and out of the collet while cutting at mid RPM setting. Examination of the collet showed a manufacturing defect. 2 Webs prevented the collet from closing symmetrically. The nature of the defect, insufficient depth on a machining cut, suggests a batch of defective collets. I have pictures of the defect and as of this date, I still have the collet. Upon inspection before use, the bit seemed to be firmly seated. Presumably, vibration while cutting caused the bit to climb out of the collet. I reported the problem to Porter Cable immediately. The bit was contained by the top safety guard. No injury resulted. Damage was limited to the guard, the bit shaft and the wood. If this had been used in a router base, the result would have been a bit thrown free of the router at several thousand RPM.

Customer Review Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2020 Color 1/4" Tongue and Groove Router Bit Tool Set Installed bit in router, began to bring bit in contact with soft pine board with the grain...results are shown in photos. Damaged my chuck and plate. Luckily only minor injury to my hand while attempting to remove. This is a horrible product, stay away. Caveat emptor. I will not even attempt to use the other two bits that came with this set as I value my safety and equipment too much. Wish I could give 0 stars.
