While camping with the family, we were using a Coleman 2 Piece Propane Tree (Model No.2000005192) to connect my propane lantern to a standard 20lb propane tank. While using the lantern, the plastic "hand wheel" (as they call it on their website) that attaches the propane tree to the propane tank split in two and caused the propane tree to pivot where it connects to the tank, causing the lantern to come crashing down and break on the ground. Had I not been incredibly careful to keep it away from anything combustible, it could have easily started a fire. This was only the 3rd time I have used the propane tree and the plastic nut (or "hand wheel") was only hand tightened onto the propane tank per the instructions. I would guess that material expansion and contraction caused by the change in temperature caused the plastic to break. It was almost 90 degrees out and running the lantern caused the propane tank to get cold. I would consider this to be a very big safety flaw. That nut should clearly be made out of a material that can withstand these types of temperature fluctuations since it is not uncommon for people to use it during the summer and propane tanks will always get cold when being used.
3 of 4 Tiki torches we purchased caught on fire, one of which set the mulch and surrounding shrubs on fire. No damage to the brick house. We think the basket burned and then the fuel cannister fell out, spilling on the mulch. It happened very fast.
Lantern was in use when the caller noticed a flame coming out of the wrong valve. Caller turned the lantern off immediately. Caller believes this product is a fire hazard.
Incident occured on 8/13/2011 We were at our cabin with friends, sitting around a table. A Stansport Two Mantel Lantern was hanging on a hook in the cabin. The lantern was not light. The regulator on the lantern apparently ruptured and propane gas was spewing from the lantern. I was able to disconnect the lantern from the propane source. No one was hurt in the incident, however, had the lantern been lit, it would have easily resulted in a fire, explosion, serious injury, loss of life or property. I believe this is a serious flaw in the lantern. I have included a video which shows how the lantern leaks when attached to propane source.
Torch flames very high, even when wick is cit way down torch bottle leaked out all of the lamp oil, making a dangerous mess. we bought 3 stands with a total of 12 torches.
Coleman lantern model 2000 (gasoline fuel) can have the burner tube separate from its holder (burner assembly) while in operation causing serious damage to life and property.
The consumer says the product floats into the air like a heated baloon. It floats until lit and than falls to the ground. The consumer says that this poses as aserious fire hazard. She says that the labels state to not use near airports, not to use near dry crops, always keep water near by and wear flame retardant clothing, never smoke while handling the lanterns and she says those are just a few.
I took my Coleman lantern case out of the garage and put it down on the patio. When I grabbed it again, the lantern dropped out of the bottom of the case. I noticed the instruction "TO LATCH, PUSH", so I followed the instruction and latched the bottom. When I picked it up again, the lantern fell out of the bottom, this time shattering and leaving little shards of glass everywhere. I am filing this report because I believe this is a dangerous design. The latch is "loose" by default, with no visual indication, and the instruction is molded into the plastic with no color contrast, instead of a bright warning label as it should have. Even after following the instructions the latch can still fail.
