Defective item is a hinged, single door with aluminum frame manufactured by Fleetwood Windows and Doors - FleetwoodUsa. Fleetwood's has manufactured what it considers a "minimalist" type door with relatively narrow stiles (uprights). The door handle and locking mechanism are attached to one of the stiles. Because of the narrowness of the stiles the door handle is very close to the door jamb. Approximately 1/2" space between the door handle and the door jamb. Under regular use fingers get caught and crushed between the door jamb and stile. This has occurred numerous times, once to where one of my fingers was lacerated.
He contacted the mfr. to have them install the doors. After they were installed the consumer said that the door sweeps were too sharp and present a laceration hazard. The aluminum door sweeps could cause his grandchildren to be severely injured. The consumer called the dealer and the installer to discuss his concerns numerous times. Finally, the consumer was sent replacement door sweeps, which the installed applied to the door. However, the consumer said that the replacements were identical to the original ones. He asked the installer to file them down, but that person said he could not because it would voice the warranty. The consumer said he would file them down himself and the installer said the could would then voice the warranty. The door sweeps protrude approximately 1/2' and could catch someones ankle, if a person opens the door. (early 6/2024): The consumer wrote comments in the warranty section of the manufacturers site and included pictures, but never received a repy.
On June 16, 2011, my 6 year old daughter was seriously injured on our Larson Screen Door. She was using the door properly. She had gone out the screen door and as it shut behind her, it sliced across the back of her leg, just above the ankle. This caused a serious laceration, slicing all the way through the skin and all the muscle, all the way to the achilles tendon. The tendon was completely exposed and the tendon was also damaged as well. Because of the severity of the injury and the damage to the tendon, her ankle had to be immobilized for four weeks. The first two weeks were spend in a half cast and on crutches. The next two weeks were spend in a medical boot. The laceration resulted in eleven stitches and a 2 inch scar. Although the scar does not sound big, my daughter is very small, and so the two inch scar literally runs from one side of her leg to the other. When the injury was viewed from the side, the slice through her leg ran about a quarter of the way through the leg. The night of the incident, she was rushed to the emergency room and treated there. For her follow-up care, she was treated by an orthopedic surgeon. The screen door has a protective rubber edging along the INSIDE bottom edge, to protect against the inside of the screen hitting the leg. The OUTSIDE corner of the bottom metal edging has a sharp pointed corner. This outside corner is what caught my daughter's leg as it swung closed. This corner comes to a sharp point, there is no rubber edging and the corner is not rounded. It cut through my daughter's leg like a knife.
Caller stated that her 13 yr old son got injured by the plate on the doorway entry. She stated that he lost his balanced and tried to hold onto the door, the doorway plate slit his left hand/forearm area which caused a lot of bleeding. She stated that she took him to the urgent care where he received 8 stitches. Caller stated that she noticed that all these doorway plates are extremely sharp on the lip edge. The manufacturer was contacted, and she was informed that her concerns will be forwarded to their quality control department. Caller feels that the company is not taking the matter seriously and these plates are a safety hazard.
I purchased mirrored closet doors at the Home Depot in [REDACTED] and had them installed. The other day we were sitting by the door and the header piece crashed to the ground and shattered in pieces so far that we could not imagine how tiny pieces could get into adjoining rooms in the house. In any event, come to find out the piece was simply taped to the top of the door with a small strip of what appears to be double faced tape on the backing. As a result, I went to the Home Depot and observed a header piece on one of their demos and made inquiry of how the product is constructed and should be attached to the door. The sales person indicated that (synopsis) those headers should be solidified with screws in order to assure adherence to the wall/door. However, that was not the case here. I have one other closet door in the house that was purchased/installed at the same time as the master bedroom door and now I am concerned that one will fall. I have taken measures - as limited as that may be due to my inexperience with these things, to ensure the same event does not take place, but I am still concerned. I told the clerk at the store that I wanted someone to call me about the product, but as of a week ago I have not heard back from anyone. I am hoping this does not happen to anyone else.
We moved in in December of 2023. The home was built with Jeld-Wen exterior windows and doors. The front door to the house is very large and heavy. It does not have a traditional latching mechanism. It has spring-tensioned rollers on the door that fit into detents on the door frame. It has a dead bolt for security. If the dead bolt is not engaged, you simply push on the door with enough force to overcome the spring tension to open the door. When we moved in, we discovered that the door would blow open with the force of a stiff breeze. Finding this unacceptable, we have had Window Visions come out and adjust the tension. They have diligently adjusted it several times and it is now very difficult to open. A child cannot open the door. Yet it continues to blow open. We walked to a neighbors home Friday, August 16th for dinner. During dinner, a storm came in and the power went out. We walked home after the rain had stopped and found the door had blown open and rain came into the interior hardwood floor. We cleaned up the water but now, a few days later, the hardwood floor is damaged and warped. A child cannot open the door from inside or out, and the door blows open in the wind. The manufacturer, JELD-WEN refuses to repair or replace the door.
I purchased my home in 2004 the full view beveled glass storm door was installed prior. recall on same door in 1999. never notified. cole sewell is now pella. the entire glass pane shattered in a trillion pieces as i opened th door last week. no reason. called pella states cannot find any recall would not honor. now I have to spend $300 to replace door myself. it has a lifetime warranty but glass breakage not included? even if it shattered for no reason?
The lock on my Architect Pella Hurricane storm door will not unlock. Since this is an exit door for a bedroom I believe the situation to be an important safety issue. Pella management doesn't think so as per several email conversations with them.
