My Oster CKSTBR9050 breadmaker was built so unstable that it wiggled off the counter while in operation and broke. I e-mailed Newell Brands about an issue with its Oster breadmaker on 4/12/20. When I never received a response, I contacted Newell Brands through Twitter 4/22/20. They said they'd respond back to me via e-mail. They never did. My subsequent messages sent to them via Twitter were ignored. I filed a BBB complaint, but Newell Brands ignored that too. Newell needs to replace the breadmaker.
This is not to report an acute safety hazard risk, such as causing an immediate injury. It's rather a longer term health hazard, up to including consumer poisoning from aluminum. I'm owner of a bread machine (Manufacturer: Zojirushi Model: BB-PAC20 Home Bakery Virtuoso) After 15 months of use; I noticed that one of the paddles (or "kneading blade" - in Zojirushi terms) stopped rotating while kneading. I removed the paddle and noticed that it's notch completely worn out. So the rotation of shaft was not transferring to paddle any longer. The other paddle was also just about to loose the connection as well. I'll try to attach a picture to my report (if your system allows it - otherwise please email me so I can send it to you). If you look at my picture; you'll see that 15 months old paddle next to a brand new one. You'll see the notch on the new paddle. Thickness of it is about 1/8". That tiny notch is the only contact point where the strong torque of powerful 100W motor is transferred to paddle. While the rotating shaft is made out of machined stainless steel, paddles feels like cast from some aluminum compound (it's very light and soft). So within time and under heavy pounding of rotating shaft; that paddle notch wears out by means of aluminum shavings. Consumer eats those metal shavings in their bread. Two important points with that design: 1) While rotating shaft is made of machined stainless steel, paddles are not. 2) Rotating shafts are about 1" long. Why Zojirushi keep that paddle notch at only 1/8" thickness and not the full length of that shaft? Then the pounding impact would have much larger surface to transfer - hence much less (even totally eliminated) abrasion on the paddle. Combined end result is; aluminum shavings in your bread. I contacted online customer support of Zojirushi USA and asked if they are considering redesigning of those paddles. I have their email reply, stating that they don't consider such a change. That's an unacceptable hea
I had started the basic bread cycle on my bread machine, which I had used two times previously with no problems, and about 5 minutes later, I smelled something burning. The heating coils were bright red and the water and bread mix were not mixed at all, but charred. I believe the bread machine overheated and could have caused a fire if I hadn't unplugged it. Smoke billowed out when the lid was open, and part of the plastic on top of the lid had melted.
Made maple oatmeal bread in a Hamilton Beach type BM07 bread maker model 29881. Noticed a black ring around the bread where the paddle in the bread maker had been located. Discovered the teflon lining the bread pan had been scraped off by the paddle and the teflon sludge was baked into the bread.
I was cleaning a Magic Chef breadmaker when I noticed that the plastic finish on the breadmaker lid was cracked and chipping into the main baking compartment. Pieces of the plastic had fallen into the bread container and onto the heating elements.
I was using my Breadman Ultimate Plus breadmaking machine, and it rocked itself off the counter and came crashing down to the floor while in its first kneading cycle.
Hamilton Beach Breadmaker #29888 walked itself off my counter full of bread dough and crashed to floor breaking itself, while unattended
The heating element in the breadmaker overheated. The outer covering of the heating element is visibly damaged. We were home and were able to unplug the unit. If left unattended, the unit would have started a fire.
