I received a Bubba Ion cordless fillet knife as a gift for Christmas last year (2020), since then I have used it 4 or 5 times (filleting at least 40 fish in all). The last two times I used it (Thursday July 29TH and Saturday July 31st), the trigger wouldnt disengage after I removed my finger from it. I had to remove the battery to get the knife to stop. I searched online thinking there was a recall I wasnt aware of. No recalls but I found plenty of other customer reviews reporting the same trigger issue dating all the way back to March of last year. The manufacturer is aware of the safety issue because they responded to one of the reviews on their website, and they sent a a replacement to [REDACTED] the customer that reported the issue in March 2020. So they have known about the issue for close to a year and a half and are still selling the product as is. They wouldnt even accept a return from a customer in August of 2020 over the same issue. Both of these customers are verified purchasers, and this isnt a third party seller on Amazon that Im getting these reviews from. Its the Bubba store. Theres even a video in one of the reviews (by [REDACTED] verified purchaser) that shows the safety issue in action. Does someone need to be injured before a recall takes place?
Was recharging it over night and woke up to the smoke alarm with the knife fully engulfed in flames and a small explosion. Nothing was damaged other than smoke damage.
Rapala R12 Electric Fillet Knife Trigger sticks and continues to run causes a serious safety issue.
It says may cause fire if using a charger that is not a rapala. Ours blew up and started a fire. It was the rapala charger that came with the knife. Just thought I should let you know the brand that started our fire. I contacted Rapala at the time of the incident.
Battery powered electric knife started a fire inside the drawer. Product was NOT in use, NOT being charged, it was just stored inside the original box.
This caller is reporting a carving knife that he received Christmas Day 2015 as a laceration and electrical shock hazard. His wife was using the knife to carve the turkey when pieces came apart due to the motors & other parts becoming charged. She said that she did feel a very slight electrical shock then put the knife down. This knife is being reported not only as a shock hazard but also as a laceration hazard due to the potential of the unit to cut an individual as it flew apart. There are no injuries being reported at this time The caller did try to contact the manufacturer but had no success.
Severe finger cut while inserting the blades into a Black & Decker EK700 electric knife. Insertion force is very high and the design of the blade guards which are small, streamlined and slippery, does not allow a firm grip on the blades. While attempting to push the blades into the knife body my hand slipped and the cut resulted. Directions were read and understood before attempting blade insertion. This is a very poor and very dangerous design. A similar issue exists for blade removal. The cut occurred when my hand slipped while attempting to push the blades in to the point that they locked in place. The knife was NOT plugged in when the incident occurred. In addition to this issues this product has another serious safety issue. The blade "trigger" which must be activated to use the knife is about the diameter of a ball point pen refill. It is too small to be easily activated with the same hand that holds the knife and using two hands puts the user in danger of cutting a hand or wrist when the knife activates.
Hamilton Beach electric carving knife model 74250. Trigger switch became difficult to turn on then once it was on, it sometimes kept running when the trigger was released. There is a danger of cutting yourself or unintended objects.
