Child was accidentally asphyxiated and strangled by cord on child backpack leash. It was wrapped around neck twice.
My mother in law and my son went out to check our outdoor Christmas decorations that early evening of December 11, 2011. They were in front of our house in the pathway when the incident happened. My son was wearing the bear backpack harness by Animal Planet when the strap that is attached to the bear snapped out the bear and my baby fell on his back and hit his head on the concrete path. Luckily he only got a little bump in his head because he was wearing a bonnet and the hoodie of his winter jacket which cushion his fall and his possible inquiry in the head. Our main concern here is that we bought that harness for his safety since my mother in law who is the one baby sitting cannot cope up with my son because of her RA. So we bought this inorder for her to be able to control him when they are outside the house. This supposedly will stop my son from running away or get hurt but there product is not sturdy enough to hold even a 23lbs baby. The stitching should be solid and not snapped out right away. Another concern was what if the scenario is different, for example they are walking in the street and because the harness broke he get loose and cross the street hit by a car or he is climbing the stairs and fell down. A lot of other worse scenario we could think and I can go on and on but the bottom line is the product is not safe, the quality is poorly made and it should be recall out in the market until they make necessary adjustments to the quality of the product. As this kind of accessories should be safe and secure as we parents buy it for the security of our children. Many parents are attracted to the company's design as they are very cute but I was deceived by that cuteness of the design.
