This furnace failed in the exact same manner as the one in Report# 20180907-68F7A-1791007.. The consumer believes that this unit had the exact same model & serial number as the previous unit, by the same mfr. The consumer said that there were no design changes to remove the poloypropolene liner in this 2006 unit, so when they replaced this 2015 unit, it was the identical to the prior one. The consumer wrote: "The first furnace was installed by a local plumbing company and I believe the distributor, at the time, was Blodgett. When the second furnace failed in 2015 (the one in this report), the propane Service Provider, Blanchard Oil, installed and maintained the unit. Blodgett also ordered and shipped the parts. Homens is their new distributor. Originally, I was told that I would be receiving a $ 600 gift card but all of that went out the window and I had to purchase a new furnace from a different company. Based on the reviews from Blanchard and Freds Plumbing, I purchased a Napoleon Furnace. I cant take any more risks of Bryant Furnace failures in Vermont Winter months." This furnace failed during Winter months and the consumer was home both times. The consumer contacted Blanchard who put a portable propane Rinnai heater in the basement to keep the pipes from freezing. The consumer was able to burn wood inside the house. In the evenings, the home temperature plunged to 50 degrees, but there was no damage to the home. ? The consumer wrote, "According to [REDACTED] at Blodgett supply in Newport Vermont, because the Flame Rollout Switch (and error code on the furnace) functioned properly, basically shutting down the furnace, it prevented any problems with harmful fumes or exhaust from entering the home. Had that also stopped working, we would have had serious issues. When the furnace begins to fail, a strange smell is emitted. It smells like propane inside the home and it makes you nauseous, but I dont think there were long term heal
The furnace failed during the winter months. The consumer contacted a local service company (Blanchard), who put a portable propane [REDACTED] heater in the basement to keep the pipes from freezing. The consumer was able to burn wood inside the house. In the evenings, the home temperature plunged to 50 degrees, but there was no damage to the home. There were no injuries as a result of this issue. There was a smell that can best be described as a propane gas odor inside the house as the furnace is became compromised and before final failure occurred. The unit was charred. Unfortunately, this side of the furnace is not able to be seen when it is installed in the housing cabinet. It needs to be removed to be able to see the damage from the unit being plugged or blocked. A technician from the distributor (Blodgett) conducted a test to size the unit. The calculations were performed in 2006/2007.
During the early morning hours, the control panel inside our Trane furnace caught fire and burned the control board along with the transformer. House filled with smoke. Fire department was able to contain the damage to the furnace. Furnace was installed on 03/2000. Model number is TDD080R936J and serial no. RD352C42G.
THE FURNACE HAS A LEAK FROM THE DRAIN LINE, CALLED LOCAL GOODMAN REPAIR MAN AND HE NEVER FOLLOWED UP.
We have a Weil Mclain model Gold GV installed in or around 2007. Starting in December 2010 our central CO alarm started going off. The alarm company alerts the local Fire Department and they came to our house. The measurements from there readers were above 40. They only used hand meter, nothing else to determine where leak was coming from. The fire department turned off our gas and we had a local plumber familiar with our furnace come to check out the system. Several thousand dollars later has not resolved problem. There has been more that 5 CO alarms at our home. The fire department broke into our home several times. They noted the highes concentration was in the garage (a few feet from furnace). One of the times alarm went off, I was home. I was sitting in our office which is almost directly above the furnace. I was unaware that symptoms I was having were from the CO. I did have high blood level when fire department and ambulance arrived but fresh air did help. I was encouraged to go to the ER but at the time thought all was ok. This situation has had great involvement of the state inspector, fire chief and plumbing company. We did get a manager and sales person to come with the fire chief to inspect the system. No leak was found even with the thermostats high, hot water running...but the only devices used to evaluate levels was air concentrator. No find
The consumer indicates that the retailer contacted him stating that they found a major problem with his furnace and would like to come out and test it. Once there, the technician found two holes on the heat exchanger and expressed his concern for a possible carbon monoxide leak in the consumers home so he shut the unit off. 08/30/2023 Both the manufacturer and the retailer tested the furnace in order to get its reading. Later that same day, the retailer sent a technician again to inform the consumer that the manufacturer would replace the heat exchanger with the same model free of charge, or that he could buy another furnace out of pocket and receive a small discount. The consumer does not feel that simply replacing the heat exchanger with the same model causing the problem is safe so although he has not made a decision, he will most like opt for a new furnace. The consumer notes that, before the retailers communication, he had no issues with his unit. The consumer is unsure if he will keep his furnace for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues. Since the initial report I have some additional information. Please see the following comments: 2) I called American Standard and spoke to a representative ([REDACTED]). I explained to her fully what had happened, what I understood to be happening to a vast number of furnaces in our area alone, and ask if they would pay to have the furnace replaced. I was told "No all that could be done is to provide a new part and have it installed." I ask if the new part (heat exchanger) would be a new design to eliminate the potential for this problem to occur again. She told me "No it would be the same design as the one you have now." She also provided that there would be no additional warranty once the part was replaced. She did indicate that I might try something she called "Cost Assisted Case". She has sent us and email asking for more details on the furnace to start this process. I plan to get this
New Rheem R98VB085M521USA furnace had gas leak because valve in manifold was not closing properly. Problem occurred multiple times, manifold replaced twice by heating company (Glendale Heating under Rheem warranty). Current new manifold seems to fix the problem, but a gas leak is a severe problem that may impact others and should not happen on a new Rheem furnace.
Caller is reporting that she experienced similar problems of the recall#22-021 Hazard: The molded plastic drain pan located at the bottom of the evaporator coil, when installed with a residential condensing gas furnace in an up-flow configuration, can overheat, melt, and deform, posing a fire hazard. Caller stated that she noticed water leaking out of the furnace, which a service technician came out and replace which cost $1496. Caller stated that she would like the company to expand the recall to include her unit. Report Update: On August 30th, I received a phone call from [REDACTED]. I am not sure if his last name or company name is correct. This is what was stated in my voicemail, but the phone number is for Goodman/Amana Homeowners Division. [REDACTED] asked me about the problem I experienced and I explained my experience of the leaking of water from the unit when the air conditioner was running in July 2019. I explained that my technician found the problem to be a drain pan that appeared to have melted in the corner. The technician said it appeared to be defective and that he'd never seen anything like it. He replaced the drain pan (I submitted an invoice to my report previously) and I paid for it. I expressed to my technician that if something melted my drain pan, that it could happen again or cause a fire. He reassured me that the old pan was defective, and I have had it checked every six months since with no sign of melting on the new one. [REDACTED] from Goodman proceeded to tell me that my problem happened outside the recall window and that there was nothing he could do. He then proceeded to try to gaslight me and tell me that something else must have caused this and that I needed to have my technician come back out and try to figure out the cause. I repeated to him that my technician already determined the cause to be the defect in the drain pan and that the new one has been checked every 6 months since with no issues. (I ha
