Using product greats extreme heat in handle of flashlight possible burn to hands. A health and safety issue!
On September 6, 2011 I purchased from Costco in Issaquah, WA a single package containing 3 battery operated LED flashlights. The package states: - Manufacturer (printed on package): TechLite Lumen Master, CREE XPE L.E.D., Imported by Costco Wholesale Corporation, Seattle, WA - Also printed on package: ITM./ART.564808 The package contained three LED flashlights and a total of 9 Duracell AAA batteries (99543760 Expiration March 2017) (3 batteries for each of the 3 flashlights). The package was securely sealed (plastic 'bubble' and cardboard) and showed no signs of tampering or having been opened. Carefully following the included printed directions I placed each battery correctly as shown both on the printed directions and the guide labeling on the battery holder in each of the 3 flashlights and assembled the flashlights completely following all printed directions. On two of the three flashlights I tested their operation and found no problems. On the third I noticed the outside metal body of the flashlight seemed warm. I carefully opened this flashlight and took out the battery holder which was extremely hot to the touch and quickly removed one of the batteries. While the battery holders metal parts were still very warm they began to cool down immediately. I again carefully, following the printed directions and the guide labeling on the battery holder, removed and correctly replaced all batteries and as soon as the third and last battery was put into the battery holder the metal parts and the batteries themselves began to heat up instantly to an extremely high temperature. Again I quickly removed the batteries and the assembly began to cool down.
I was doing prep for hurricane Irma and checked my flashlight to see what type of batteries it uses. Saw it was "c" batteries and I clicked it on and off to see if it was working or if I needed to replace them. The flashlight didn't come on so I put it down and decided I needed new batteries. A few minutes later I thought I should test the batteries to see if they were really dead or if maybe something was wrong with the flashlight. I picked it up and the flashlight was burning hot! It's all metal. I quickly unscrewed the cap and dumped the batteries out onto the counter top and they were also burning hot! Good thing I only left this for a few minutes and didn't leave to go to the store. I don't know how hot it would have become and if it would have started a fire. A piece of plastic inside near the bulb appears to be melted but I do not know if that's normal for this flashlight or not. I saw someone else reported the exact same incident on 5/15/2013 with you so I figured I should report it also since I don't see an active recall.
I purchased 3 Energizer/Eveready Rechargeable LED Lights/Flashlights Model #RCCHFNM from a local Virginia Walmart. The first failure was the red LED charge light failed to illuminate. The second failure was the product became hot to the touch when plugged into the wall socket. The final failure was the noticing the melted plastic case in the same spot on all 3 lights. The risk of fire hazard prevents me from further use of the product. The product is still for sale at my local Walmart. I have notified Underwriters Laboratory and Energizer about this issue.
Product is the Fenix E35 flashlight. I use this product for work and on all occasions happened to be wearing heavy duty/thick work pants. On three occasions the Fenix E35 flashlight was in the "locked" position in my pocket. The flashlight managed to get out of the locked position and turned on to the highest/brightest setting inside my pocket. Sometimes I noticed faint smoke smells followed by faint, but visible wisps of smoke. The first two times this happened, I thought it was my laptop running hot. As soon as I realized the flashlight was causing the smoke, I pulled the flashlight out and it was on. The lighted end of the flashlight was too hot to touch and caused my pants to smoke slightly. No burn spots on my pants or pockets. The product does have a symbol indicating the end can get hot, but the concern is how the lock feature failed. There is potential for injury (burns) and significant property damage (fire). This did not cause injury.
I purchased this item because the flashlights are rechargeable and my kids always have a flashlight so they can use in the middle of the night when they get up to drink water, my youngest son was checking to see how bright the room looked with the multi-use headlamp and he was trying out the 3 color lights on the side of the headlamp light. The flashlight was on and the lamp dropped on the couch and burned a hole in the fabric, all three flashlights get really hot in such a short time, even though that is not an excuse because the current flashlights that my kids have do not get hot at all. No flashlight should start getting hot when turned on. This product should be checked, it could be a serious fire hazard. Nowhere on the package does it state that it gets hot when on.
A flashlight I recently purchased at CVS short-circuited, causing the D batteries in it to dangerously overheat. Here is the product information: Rayovac Twin Pack Model EVBZDZD-B09B It is a package of two black flashlights with yellow trim, each containing two D batteries, priced at $9.99 at CVS.
We bought a Bushnell headlamp we purchased. Please see the photo of the head lamp attached. We went to fishing last Saturday night (9/12/201 5). My husband wore the head lamp first and then let me to wear it so that I could see better. After I worn for some time, I left pain of my lower part of the head. l thought it might be the belt of the head lamp pulling my hair. So I put it off. After fishing and came home, I still felt the pain on my lower head, so I asked my husband to take a look. He was shocked and took a picture of the wound to show me. After I told him what happened when I wore the headlamp, he touched his head and also felt something was not right. I also took a picture of his head to show him. Since he wore it for a shorter time, his wound is not as bad as mine. Please see both pictures of our lower parts of our heads.
