Every window in my house is made by a company called Hurd Windows. They are dual paned windows with Low E Glass and my understanding is that they have some type of gas in between the two layers of glass to help with insulation. On at least six occasions I have had the interior pane of glass - what I can only refer to as spontaneously combust. This usually occurs during the winter months when the weather is cold and the heat is on inside the house. These windows are not cheap to repair or replace and pose a danger to anyone who is in the room when the combustion occurs. On at least one occasion my children had just left the room when one of the windows exploded. They were not injured but I cannot believe that I am the only consumer that this has happened to. I feel confident that someone has or will be hurt by this flying glass. On a prior occasion I contacted Hurd Windows by email, never to be contacted in return. If this is still occurring with their products they should be pulled from the mrket. Do I have any recourse?
I am a resident of [REDACTED] Airport area. In 2013, the Department of Aviation graciously provided new soundproof windows and door through their Residential Soundproofing Program. In 2016, some of the residents began noticing a very strong odor/gas filling our homes. In July 2017, it was discovered that it was the windows that were off gassing. The intensity of the "fumes" correlates with the intensity of the sun. Gets so bad that it takes my breath away and eyes begin to water. We do not know what chemicals the windows are off gassing.
Caller is reporting that the windows that was installed in her home 2011 started off gassing chemicals around 2016. She stated that this has caused her health symptoms such as headaches, nausea etc. Caller stated that the Chicago aviation Department has confirmed that these windows are defective. Caller stated that she would like to know what kind of chemicals she has been breathing in.
We have 6 each of the same Farley replacement windows. The sashes on these windows tip in for cleaning. On the lower sash there are 2 clips that release the window. Most of these clips on our windows have broken so when the window is open only the pressure of the molding holds it in and it easily falls in. The window had fallen on us a couple of times and luckly only hit items, but one day one of our children opened the window and it fell in brusing them on their head. I have contacted Farley and they have changed the latches (thankfully) but do not offer improved latches to replace the older ones, or even any of the old design to replace broken ones. If it were only 1 or maybe even 2 of our windows with broken clips I would think it was something that may have happened to them. But 4 our of the 6 windows have broken clips and the 2 that do not are rarely opened.
The product is a casement window supposedly designed for coastal conditions. The window was open approximately 6". I turned the crank to close it, however the window swung open all the way and came off its tracks and hinges. I managed to grab the movable window part before it came off completely and fell to the ground (approximately 14' below). With help, my friend and I were able to secure the window from falling (with steel picture frame wire), but it was hanging 2" off the frame. A contractor came the next day. Standing on a scaffold, he managed to re-install the window. My arm was injured and bleeding. It still has not completely healed. I took photographs of everything, which I can supply. The manufacturer, Anderson Windows, sent a representative and a technician. The told me the window was perfect. the technician told me privately that he has seen many windows of this Andersen type completely blow out of the frame if not closed and latched.
Inner pane glass of Milgard dual-pane window "exploded" propelling glass shards into room. This happened in the middle of the night, nothing was touching the window. Nobody was injured. There was no property damage beyond the window. Window had been installed in 2003.
Several double hung windows in my home failed due to balance mechanism failure. In one case the heavy sash which was in the open position came crashing down. This could have caused significant injury to a child near the window.
I was sitting in front of my computer when then the window in front of me blow apart literally, I have pictures of it and this is the third one of these windows made by Lincoln wood out of Merrill Wisconsin to do this in our home. Our local glass repair place in Traverse City Mich twin bay glass says this is not the only home in the area this has happened to. They had had to replace numerous windows made by this manufacture with this same problem. The worse thing about the situation is they refuse to take my phone call or call me back. Their phone number is [REDACTED]. What type of business should be allowed to put out a product and then not stand behind it that could potentially main or kill a human being with flying glass? The glass company here notified them of the problem but they said since it wasnt under warranty it wasnt their problem. Well I want you to make it their problem
