Product states "Cleans oven without lye" but ingredients are "water, sodium hydroxide...." Since sodium hydroxide is the chemical name for lye, the "without lye" statement is false and could reduce caution level.
The oven cleaner is advertised as a paste but when it is used it is a liquid. You are required to push down on the cap and turn to use the oven cleaner. The three year old 70 pound three year old was able to open the bottle and got some of the cleaner into his mouth. He was taken to the emergency Room at LIJ where they placed him in Intensive care. He injured his esophagus, and received burn marks to neck. He was in the Hospital for two weeks for observation and they could not tell how much was ingested. The firm was not contacted but he indicated that he would and he has discontinued the use of the product
I experienced a chemical burn from using Easy-Off oven cleaner (the yellow can) to both my left and right ear canal. This occurred while spraying the chemical and having flash burn back from the spray. Thankfully I had my eyes protected (wearing protective glasses) and my hands with wearing gloves (as directed on the can). I read the instructions numerous times and never did it warn about possible burn to your ears. I got spray on my face and hair which I wiped off right away. I didn't realize how much had got into my ears until I looked in the mirror and saw they were black. This was scary. I was taken to the [REDACTED] burn unit via ambulance from [REDACTED] on Friday. The burn unit diagnosed my burn and determined it was a chemical burn. I am to return to the Burn Unit Clinic for Grafting treatment for my ears. At this time my left ear is partial hearing and my right no hearing. Not sure what damage was done to my ear drum as the doctors and burn unit were not able to see into my ear canal due to the damage and swelling from the chemical burn. I have photos of my ears, the can used, the glasses worn. In my medical charts (which I can get copies) it will state I had 2nd degree burns in both my ear canals that I would like to send to you. I have damage to my ear drum (to what degree we still don't know). I am unable to hear from my right ear and distorted hearing from my left ear. Pain is horrible. Taking medication to help relieve pain.
I bought a couple cleaners from internet but I think they haven't been legally regulated, one of them burned my hand and when I asked to the sellers they blocked me out, the labels looks "home made" and they don't have any legal information or ingredients or nothing...
On Saturday Feb. 9th I decided to clean my oven using Easy Off heavy duty oven cleaner. I had never use this product before, so I read the directions. They showed two ways to clean the oven, one warm and the other cold. I decided to use the warm method. It said to preheat my over to 200 degrees, which I did. I know it was 200 degrees, because I had it checked and set in 2018 because I had problems with it. I also had an oven thermometer. I put on gloves as per direction, and then leaned in and started spraying. It didn't start to foam, instead it went into a large vapor ball that took my breath away, and stopped me from being able to breath. I ran out my back door onto my patio, and tried to get my breath. It took me at least 3 mins before I was able to feel like I was breathing normally. I then held my breath went back into the house, ran and opened the front door and turned on 2 ceiling fans, then went back outside with the back patio door opened also. I spent 10 mins outside in the cold before all the smoke and vapor from the oven disappeared. I am 75 years old and in very good health, so I was able to get outside. I don't know if everyone could have. I have been slightly sick to my stomach with a mild headache. If I am not better tomorrow I am going to the doctor. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but it is dangerous.
I purchased Easy-Off Heavy Duty Fresh Scent oven cleaner last week. I used it exactly as specified on the label for use under "warm oven cleaning". I heated the oven to 200, then turned it off, then sprayed the product in the oven - it immediately upon touching the surface of the oven turned into a Lye gas. In a split second I had to run out of the house - my back door is about 6 feet from the oven. I could barely make my way back into the house to turn on the fan above the range. This stuff burned my nose, lungs and eyes. It was super caustic. No where on the label does it say to Cool the oven using the warm oven method. My husband is a scientist and I only had to start the story when he said that was obviously what would happen. I showed him the label and he could not believe it. I finished my project once the oven cooled. I had to put my pets out of doors and had to open all the doors and windows and blow fans however before I could enter the house to do this. This is very dangerous labelling. I cannot imagine if I could not get out quickly or had a small child or someone who could not have gotten out fast. It was awful. Label needs to be changed. I tried to contact the company, but their website won't load when I hit the contact button.
I was using a can of easy off heavy duty oven cleaner. As I sprayed the cleaner it backfired onto my pants. Immediately I went to change my pants because my leg was stinging. I noticed a burn on my leg so I jumped in the shower to run water and soap over my leg. I sustained a nasty burn that has discolored my leg and removed the skin.
12/11/14 Consumer stated that as she was trying to pulled the cap off the oven cleaner the contents dispersed onto her arms and face area. She stated that she cleansed her body with cold water but is still experiencing tingling. No medical attention was received. Consumer stated that she followed the instruction correctly to open the cap but she feels that pressure was built up inside the can which caused this incident. She has used other brands of oven cleaner before and never experience this incident. She placed the container into a bag outside and refuse to touch it for fear of explosion. 12/11/14 The retailer was contacted and she was informed that the Corporate office should be contacted for an investigation.
