I purchased a counter top double hot plate from Amazon on April 15th of this year (2020). It is made by Cusimax. This is the web address - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QTQ2M99/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This morning, unknown to us, one of the burners did not shut off by way of using the shut off knob until the house was full of smoke and I had to unplug it. I have notified both Amazon and the manufacturer. I have told them they should recall this immediately!
My wife bought the: Deni 16310 Stainless-Steel 1500-Watt Tabletop Single Burner off of Amazon.com (I don't know if it was from Amazon directly or from one of Amazon's vendors.) Anyway, We plugged this piece of dangeous crap in, and it heated up our pot of food. We took the pot of food off the hotplate and served ourselves. I then placed my hands on the outside of the unit, on its chrome part, to move it slightly to anothe place on the counter top, and it burned my fingers ! I did not touch the circular hotplate part, which you would expect to be hot, of course. Just the outside of the unit. It was burning hot ! Then I looked at reviews on Amazon, and others said the same thing- one guy said it got so hot, the temperature dial melted and fell off ! Please get these dangerous devices off the market.
I purchased a deni (Keystone Mfg. Co. Inc.) hot plate Model:16310, 120V-1500 W Made in China on 8/01/2010. UPC code:050763163108. The product stopped working a week ago. It would heat water but not boil. My husband who knows electronics took it apart and said it is unsafe. It was sparking because of loose connectors to the heating element (both were sparking). The connectors are made of very thin cheap metal that is not brass so when it heats up they become loose and fall off. It eventually stopped working all together but there was ample time for the sparks to become a fire. It is not UL listed but says it conforms to UL standards. Besides the safety issue this product is designed to fail. This product was used very few times and only to boil water.
The portable induction cooktop, approximately a minute into the process of heating a pan with oil, caught on fire out the bottom/rear of the unit. A fire extinguisher was used and stopped the fire, but the unit itself was completely burned through, and it resulted in burns to a couple surfaces in the kitchen as a result. There were no injuries as a result. The unit was situated on top of disabled gas burners (we're removing gas from our household, and have had the gas turned off, but have not yet removed the cooktop), alongside another portable cooktop of the same model, which continued operating normally. There was ample space behind, beneath (it was on top of the gas burner grates), and beside the unit on one side, while the other unit was a couple inches away on the other side. The unit that caught fire was newly purchased, while the other model has been operating normally for approximately two years now.
I purchased a Mr. Coffee mug warmer from Amazon approx 18 months ago. I seldom use it. It is powered from a standard 120 plug into an outlet. Recently, I had used it without incident and had left it plugged in, but int eh "off' position. A few days ago, I noticed the smell of burning electrical in my office but was unable to pinpoint to the source of the oder. The smell persisted for a few days. On Monday, the smell intensified. I was able to locate the source of the smell as it was obviously coming from the coffee mug warmer. I verified that it was in the "off' position. The entire e unit was hot to the touch. l picked it up form the power cord and it began to make a sizzling sound and produced smoke. l unplugged it from the wall and took it outside to cool off.
I purchased a cast iron hot plate from Amazon, listing here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VLK8G99?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details This unit is a serious safety hazard. I used it to boil 4 cups of water in a pot with the heat turned all the way up and in the 11.5 minute it took to reach a rolling boil, the entire housing of the unit had become too hot to touch. The entire housing of the unit is made from sheet metal which rapidly conducts the heat of the cast iron top, raising the temperature of the housing almost as high as the cooking surface. After just 11.5 minutes of use I couldn't touch the metal housing anywhere at all and I could only touch the plastic temperature dial for a second before it became too painful to maintain contact. Had I continued using the hot plate the temperature dial would've inevitably become so hot that attempting to turn the unit off using the dial with bare hands would've caused burns. This hotplate also has no internal fan, meaning it's enclosed and poorly ventilated metal body acts as an oven-like enclosure, trapping it's radiated heat inside itself and cooking the internal electrical components. I believe that, with enough regular use, these conditions will cause the insulation on the internal wire harness to melt or break down enough to become either a fire or electrical hazard. I also believe that using this hot plate on a wood surface/countertop may cause pyrolysis in the wood, lowing it's ignition temperature, due to the high heat the unit radiates downward on a regular basis, potentially posing a fire hazard due to it's poor heat management.
Using electric hotplate model YQ-105 on setting between 1 and 2(of 5) to keep coffee cup warm. Hotplate switched itself to maximum (red hot) temperature and did not respond to switch being turned off. I could not be turned off except by unplugging.
The coffee mug warmer was being used in the normal fashion set to a temperature of 190 degrees. It contains a touch pad to set the temp and to turn the unit on and off. When the unit is off the on/off icon is red; when the unit is on, that icon becomes white and the set temperature (in this case 190 degrees) flashes white also. After drinking most of the coffee over the course of about one hour, I touched the on/off button and the icon turned red. After at least an hour later, I picked up the cup to find it was still quite hot and the burner was still emitting heat. I was not injured or burned as the contact was brief. This event occurred on 4 May [REDACTED], and a similar event occurred about two weeks earlier. After the first event I contacted Cosori who offered to replace the unit. I continued to use it in the meantime away from family just to be safe and to confirm the original event was repeatable. Although I was not injured, the unit allows setting a temperature up to 220 degrees and could thus result in a serious burn.
