(07/04/2022) The consumer has a safety concern about the product. He stated that the briquets produces a lot of smoke, which is more than usual for other brands. This is the first time that the consumer has used this brand. Also, after the air supply was closed, it took almost 6 hours for the coals to cool. The consumer also stated that the smoke from the briquets caused a burning sensation in his mother's lungs. She did not require any medical attention.
Kroger simple truth 100% natural hardwood lump charcoal that we purchase regularly always has items that are not charcoal, rocks and wood that is not charcoal and one time, melted metal with insulation attached which I felt could produce dangerous fumes or particles if burned.
He used the charcoal 2 times previously, but when he planned to use it the 3rd time, he found housing insulation mixed inside the bag with the charcoal. Hes extremely concerned about what he may have been exposed to. He said people should not be exposed to any housing insulation, and especially mixed in a product used to cook food with. The consumer still has the product if needed.
(12/20/2022) The consumer wanted to get rid of odors in his home. He searched online and read that charcoal could be used to remove odors. The consumer filled 2 small cardboard boxes with charcoal. He placed 1 in his bedroom and 1 in his kitchen, overnight. When the consumer woke up the next morning, he had difficulty breathing. This was later 4-6-2023. He called his brother and was taken to a nearby hospital and placed in intensive care. He stayed in the hospital for a few days and was released. But approximately 1 2 days after being released, he returned to the hospital and was kept for a few more days. Since that time, he has had chemotherapy treatments, a CT scan and radiation treatment. The consumer claims that Creosote was used to make the charcoal, and it caused him to develop cancer. (Approx. 2022 or early 2023): He called the manufacturer and reported the matter to them, but they did not offer to do anything for him. Before I got cancer. The consumer also viewed information on the internet, where he claimed that other people noted adverse effects from using charcoal.
Caller reporting that the charcoal after it was burning for a while he went to check on it and it started exploding about 12 feet from where he was standing, dispersing particles everywhere. He stated that a projectile object hit him in both eyes causing injuries. Caller stated that he went to the Memorial Hermann hospital emergency care TX, where he was treated and released for follow-up. Caller stated that the manufacturer was not contacted as yet. Caller feels that this product is a safety hazard and should be recalled.
On Saturday April 14th my son was grilling hot dogs using Expert Grill Instant Lighting Charcoal which we believe may have led to him having a seizure. He cooked with this product around 1-2 P.M. at his grandmothers house across the street from mine. I returned home from work around 6 p.m. and as I walked to her house I noticed a strong odor that smelled like fireworks, particularly the black snake fireworks that came in a small tablet and when lit would grow into an ash snake. This odor was coming from the grill that was used 4 hours earlier. I asked my son, daughter and their mother if they noticed the strong smell and they agreed it didnt smell like charcoal normally does. With the exception of my son everybody was inside while the charcoal was being lit but did notice the smell after the food was done and they came outside. A couple of people, including my daughter, stated that the food had an odd taste but didnt think much more of it. A hot dog was prepared for me and later as I got it out of the fridge and re heated in the microwave I could smell the odd odor once again and after taking a bite I even tasted it on the food so I threw it away. I asked them what kind of charcoal was used and if they found anything odd about it when they opened the bag and they commented that the coals went up in flames extremely quick unlike other charcoal that takes a little time to light and a couple of minutes to be fully engulfed. Early the next morning my son had a violent seizure that required a call to 911 with an ambulance transport to the hospital. He had a blood and urine test to rule out drugs plus two brain scans to look for physical problems. He was then transported to another hospital where he was given an MRI and EEG with these tests requiring him to stay in the hospital overnight. All of the tests came back negative and he was released the following day though per Virginia law he cannot drive for six months. The neurologist said though they ruled ou
On 07/10/2013 I purchased Stater Bros Brand 3lb bag of Light the bag charcoal for a family vacation. On 07/12/2013 we were on a beach in Lake Havasu getting ready to bbq using the [REDACTED] BBQ pit, I put the entire bag in the pit unopened like the instructions indicated and lit the bag with a long lighter the bag emploded and fire flashed back and burned both of my hands on top of my fingers I ran away from it and a family went over to light the BBQ not realizing how bad I was burned and lit the bag again and the bag againg emploded and flashed back on him. My concern is that this could potentially happen to others I received 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the tops of my fingers that became infected and was very painful
