Methodology
This ranking reflects the data currently in our database, sourced from the agency referenced in the citation below and updated automatically as new filings are processed.
Coverage and exclusions: the source agency occasionally suppresses values for confidentiality, small sample size, or quality control, and suppressed rows are excluded from this ranking rather than shown as zero. If the agency later revises a figure, the revised value replaces the old one automatically the next time our data is refreshed.

What this analysis cannot tell us
Hospitalization rate is calculated from NEISS sample records where the disposition code indicates inpatient admission, transfer for hospitalization, or held for observation. Rates can vary significantly year to year on lower-volume products due to sampling variance, so the >=1,000 annual injury threshold filters out products whose hospitalization rates would be unstable. Hospitalization decisions reflect clinical judgment that varies by ER protocol, patient age and comorbidities, insurance coverage, and product use-context (occupational, recreational, household). A high hospitalization rate is not a regulatory determination; it is an empirical descriptor of incidents that reached the inpatient threshold of care. Severity index combines hospitalization and fatality rates into a composite score and inherits the limitations of both inputs.
